i have roadrunner and a linksys wireless 802.11g router. when i had just the roadrunner plugged directly to the pc my net ran fine, but when i hook it up through the router it runs like dial-up now. i even did a trace test through google.com on my command prompt and the numbers when connected directly to the computer were way better than the numbers when hooked up through the router. so the question is..

-should i get a new router (netgear)
-or try to install the software again for the router (which hungup at the very end when trying to save my settings)

Have you updated the firmware for the router?

Reset the router. This should return it to the default settings. From there you can start your setting over.

Updating the firmware on any piece of equipment needs to be done flawlessly or it can become permanently corrupted. As Dolphin suggests, you should rerun the firmware update and let it finish if it can. Support for the router will assist you in getting that accomplished, but most warranties for products almost never include firmware updates unless instructed by their support division and a log was made that they helped you do it.

I use nothing but Linksys/Network Everywhere equipment...and their firmware usually installs without a hitch. The most "lag" that a router will add to a connect, is usually one layer. In games as far back as Halo, you'd see the differnce in connection lag from 65 for those that have a direct connect, and 165 for those using a router. This is not always the case however with newer routers or specific models.

Our internet connection speed has not changed using the Network Everywhere router...it was 2.8Mb down and 1.1Mb up straight from the radio, and with the router.

Contact their support, and let them know about the connection issues. When instructed by them (if they do), follow their lead on updating the firmware. Don't say right off that you tried and it failed.
