Unfortunately you will have to use Sony media or top quality media...
Sony specifically doesn't respond to cheaper media, suxs

Without buying the really expensive DVD-R's, try a Traxdata or Verbatim Disc. They tend to be more acceptable to burn at 4x. A good way to find out is to ask your local DVD Media supplier for a bundeled test Pack of 5 or 6 different DVD-R media all at 4x

Try Maxell 4x too ! They work in my Sony DRU-500AX drive at 4x and they're not that expensive as verbatim ...

A05 will not burn at 4x with cheap media. You would have to hack your firmware. I prefer to get higher quality media. Currently, I am finding out if A05 will burn Ritek 4x @ 4x...

I would keep away from NERO, only because certain versions work flawlessly, but most just don't work at all. You will successfully burn, but not be able to view it on a DVD Player. I suggest you go with RecordNow Max.
