I have had great luck with ltools_v1[1].7.5_SC_NTSC splinter cell hack, and xboxhdm for HDD upgrades and repairs, and slaYers_2.6_final for for setting it up. Read up on the softmodding tuturials.

Eurasia.nu is a great resource for apps and tools, check it out.

If you know how to solder, the easiest to just install a mod chip and use an autoinstaller disc to install everything on the hard drive.

If not, your best choice would be to softmod. It'll be a lot more tedious to upgrade the hard drive with a soft mod in comparison to a chipped Xbox though, so keep that in mind.

Thanks goes out to theridges for the userbars :)

I had no problem realy, though I do think xboxhdm did calculate a bad hdd key one or twice, but it's really not difficult.

Never said it was. Just saying it's a lot quicker to install a larger hard drive with a chipped Xbox than it is with a softmodded one.

With a chipped Xbox, all you'd have to do is install the new drive, run AID 3.0 (or Slayer's 2.6 in my case), lock the drive, and it's finished. No worrying about the EEPROM, and no need to use xboxhdm. Since chipped Xbox's can use unlocked hard drives, you can skip all that.

I've worked with both and can say from experience that installing a larger hard drive is far quicker with a chipped Xbox than with a softmodded one.

I'd recommend taking a look at the Xecuter chips and if you're trying to save money, the DuoX2.

If you were markpin's neighbor, he probably would have a softmodded xbox. Soft modding is 110% more difficult and riskier for the common lammer than to just put in a mod chip.

peace out

Price and preference, really. I've only dealt with Xecuter, so that's why I recommended them. Also, take a look at the Xecuter 2.6 CE, since it's cheaper. The X3 you linked costs that much because of all the accessories you can get for it. They're all unnecessary for playing backups, so don't worry about them.

Also, that Xenium is solderless, hence the higher price. I tend to shy away from these, but if so many people are suggesting it then it's probably a good choice.

No, it works with 1.0-1.6b. I've installed two of them, one of which was on a 1.6.

http://www.modchipstore.com/Xbox-ModChip-Xecuter-2-6-CE-Official-...

All you would need is wire, solder, and possibly the solderless adapter for 1.6. You don't need the programmer, since it's easier to just do a network flash from the PC.

Also, don't get that tool set. If don't have any torx drivers of your own, you can pick up a set at any hardware store for about $5.

Xecuter3..the 2.6 is limited on bios sizes and options. It's great if you want to dual boot linux, but if you want to boot various bios then the 3 is the way to go. Xenium are good to but have a few strange features that I'm not too sure about.
