I would use a power converter to be on the safe side. They are pretty cheap anyway.

A friend of mine had an imported dreamcast from japan and he didn't need any kind of converter which would make me guess north america and japan use the same voltage so, you shouldn't need any kind of converter either.

if all you wanted to do was play japanese games then you could've bought a north american ps2 and modded it. It's strange that my friend had no problem with his dreamcast and some other japanese electronics, could it be the ps2 is not working? but worse come to worse you just need to get a power converter/transformer like the other person mentioned (assuming the ps2 works).

mus10, yes you can get a premodded ps2 online but, if you are in america and you have a north american ps2 what exactly is the problem?

I'm in America and I want to play -Japanese versions- games....

My PS2 cannot play these games because it has another system (NTSC/UC) and Asian PS2 is NTSC/J,, so my device can't play them.

NOW !!,

If I buy Japanese or Asian PS2 (Moded), could I play it in America

with its games (NTSC/J) ??

OR

imagine if I had PS2 (NTSC/J) in America,,, could I buy a power

converter to play it OR not??

I appreciate your effort again .

Well i have brought 2 japanese ps2's over from japan and one is a slim and one is the big fatso. The slim one comes with a little block that will allow you to input 100 to 220 volts wich runs just fine on u.s. current. Now the fat one did not come with that it just came with the long power cord the is straight from the wall to the ps2. In this case i use a power converter and it runs just fine. For both of my ps2's i use swap magic and the flip top and i can play any game (burned, import, domestic) Im sure if your in the u.s. a wal-art or best buy may have a converter but if you cant find one then look on the net. To give you an idea look at this page (http://www.voltageconverters.com/japan_voltage.html))

You can use the items from the site in both u.s.a. and japan. It will accept 100v wich is japan and 120v wich is the usa. I use the same thing in the usa and my ps2 runs perfect

My ps2 runs at 100v and 36 watts. Now im not positive but most ps2's should be running at about that same give or take a few. At that web site you could get the cheapest one (VC-100J) wich is $17.99. According to the page it supports up to 100 watts. Now depending on how much you want to spend i personaly would pick up the next step up one wich supports 300 watts. Of course you could use the 100 watt one but I personally like a little extra power. So all in all pick up the VC-100J and your ps2 will run just like it did in japan. And no you do not need a modded ps2 to use it in the states but you will only be able to play NTSC-J (japanese) games. If you dont already know you should get a swap disc and flip top cover. It will run you around $40 and you will be able to play all import games (usa,PAL) and burned games too. :)

2.If you have a slim ps2 go here :http://www.thegiantstore.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID...

Wait a minute !!!

with ((flip top and swap magic)) I won't need a ((modchip)) right ??

- I have a question ?

Can I use a ((flip top and swap magic )) on American PS2 to play Japanese games (NTSC/J) ??

If yes,, I have an American PS2 (SLIM). so, no need to buy a new device

If no,, I'II buy a new Japanese device !

Yes if you purchase swap magic and a flip top you can play burned and imports without a modchip. The swap disc and flip top does the same thing that a mod chip does only some people prefer a mod chip because there is no need to swap the discs when using a mod chip.

If you have an American slim ps2 go to here: (http://www.thegiantstore.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID...)
and get the american disc set with the flip top. When you recieve this all you will have to do is unscrew a few screws (http://www.modchipstore.com/files/images/v12disassembly-fliptop.jpg) and you will be ready to play burned and imported games. So all in all this will do everything that you have been asking for. You WILL be able to play your eleven ten game and you can play any japanese and any burned game regardless where its from. :)

Ok if you are using your USA ps2 then get

Swap magic disc set included. (NTSC for USA) Version 3.6

The upgrade one is more expencive and it allows you to use codes with your game. Its like a game shark or action replay. The upgrade is not neccesary. All you need is the one posted above with the flip top cover and your all set. Chose the 3 day shipping for $11 and in 3 days you will be playing all your imports and backups no problem.
