Shrink is not burning software. You need a burning program to do the actual 'burning'. Something like Nero.

I can't explain everything as well as some of the other guys here. But, Shrink is basically a program that rips it to hard drive and allows you to burn.

I use only DVD Decrypter, for burning DL discs. Here is a guide:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Copying%20a%20Dual%20Layer%20DVD%...
This guide is starting from scratch (ripping and burning). Go to the point of getting the files from the HD, to the actual burn process. If it doesn't work with the files you have (you didn't mention the software you used for ripping), it might be good to start from scratch again, and using the guide.

Here is his homepage. You can get software, and other guides, for using the software, from there.
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html
If you want to use Shrink, to compress, and Nero to burn, to a single layer disc, he has a guide for that too.
Good luck!

Because Decrypter will require an ISO file to burn the movie. Nero can probably burn the file you have.

It can be done with Shrink if you set the disc size to 9GD and it will burn with Nero. Easier to just use Nero.

Actually, the new ImgBurn is the way to go for DL backups. This ver will allow you to build your iso and then burn. You can build from a VTS file ripped by DVDFab or if you have AnyDVD run it in the background, and it will build the iso from from your drive. The prog will calculate the layer break for you, and even shows you where it will be and then you can burn. Very nice addition from LUK!!.

I have just started to use ImgBurn with some older 4.7 GB movies. Is there a way to get Decrypter to link with ImgBurn and burn the Iso which AnyDVD and Decrypter created. In other words make it a one click start to finish with two DVD drives.

Edit: much like Shrink-Nero

If the DVD is under the 4.3g limit then have ImgBurn build your iso and then you can just burn it with ImgBurn. No there is not a way to link DVDD or ImgBurn together. You can link ImgBurn with Shrink though.

Since you're using good programs, and excellent discs, I'd say to check and see if you have the latest firmware for your burner. If the firmware is right, it may be time for a new burner. $30-$35 online.

@arniebear

Yeah thanks, I didn't think they would link. I have been pleased with the results ImgBurn and Decrypter have done with ISO files on the single layer discs I 've been backing up. I generally use Nero and Recode to do the DL movies to a 4.7gb disc. I might try ImgBurn ISOs with some DL blank discs, if I find a movie that's worthy of a $2.00 disc. LOL! I was not pleased withe decrypter and the results it produced with DL discs in ISO mode. The layer break was not smoothe. Had better results with Shrink ripping the IS and burn it with Decrypter. Strange I know but it handled the layer break in the last Potter movie. I got the penis poem from my wife. LMAO!

@garmoon

I know what you mean about finding a movie worthy of a DL, for the most part I use DVD Rebuilder and it does such a good job that DL media is not needed. Most of the time I do movie only anyway, don't want all the junk. The DL's I have done have been pretty much using DVDD, couple with Blindwrite and have had no problems. Only problem I had was with the last Star Wars and that was a media issue. Actually CloneDVD will do a good DL backup too.

i hear people on here all the time talking about burning to DL, and the movies you are putting on DL's. i just do not understand why you would put them on DL? i have not had to put one movie on DL yet. does that mean i am doing something wrong. over 450 backups and not one DL. it kinda worries me that maybe i am doing something wrong. you were talking about harry potter and star wars. i have put all of those on regular -r's and have had great quality. no need for DL. like i said am i doing something wrong?

If you want a 1.1 backup, no compression at all then you use DL media. Some movies require a lot of compression e.g. Saving Private Ryan. You are at 50% with that one which is a lot, and some transcoding programs cannot handle the compression well you will get artifacts in your backup. Shrink has deep analysis which will do a double pass and AEC quality enhancements to help for large compression also. Nero Recode will also do a decent job if you do advanced analysis and slow transcode. DVD Rebuilder does the best job on highly compressed movies. But that program uses encoders which are different than your transcoders. Here is a thread and you can see comparisons. The backup is all in the eye of the beholder, if you are happy with your quality that is all that matters. If it looks good on your set then it is fine.

you know i looked at that thread and for me, i really did not see that much difference in all of the images. i really do not understand how when you are watching a movie that you notice such little things like the shadow under someones eyes. i could understand it more if you saw a lot of pixation, but to get so picky that you are looking at spots on someones nose. i guess i back my movies up for the enjoyment of the movie. i guess maybe i am the minority here. i just dont see that big of a difference. to each his own i guess.

now, i will have to admit that there are a few movies where i have to use a DL, Lonesome Dove, GOne With THe Wind, and Casino. i have burned Casino on regular disc and it showed a lot of pixalation, so these are ones i will have to put on DL. but some of the others that i have heard spoke of, i really do not see any problems with them.
