When I looked up "leet speak" in google, I was rather amazed at how involved it got. Stange that someone would put that much time into learning something so totally useless!

I couldnt read half of that "leet" talk and rather glad I never took the time to understand. I only program at a basic level (automated visual inspection systems) and am glad that that jargon has nothing to do with the real world.
The subject of pr0n though I may be a bit of an expert.
The term was started as a way for spammers and web phishers to get around email spam blockers and filters by flipping a few letters/characters around without losing the basic intent.

leet will be around for quite some time, but i bet it will die down in a few years. tho our kids will have to live with a new leet generation bringing the oldschool geek lingo..
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

Off subject but curious: I said somewhere in a back post the this leet speak looked like some of those wierd fonts in MS Word. I'm just wondering if anyone knows what purpose those fonts serve.

1998 called, they want their thread back.
When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.
