I am currently useing DVD Shrink and ImgBurn to back up my dvd's. This set up has worked well so far except for the fact that it takes about 2 hours to burn the file to a blank dvd disc. I am burning at max (which is 8x i think). Is there any way to speed things along or do I just need a faster burner? Thanx in advance for the help.

Hi Rodan1
Check all your drive transfer mode - should be set to DMA. Here's a guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
Look under 'current transfer mode' to make sure says ultra dma mode and a number.

If your burner is an external - is it connected to a 2.0 usb hub?

Are you using an external or internal burner?
2 hours to burn a dvd at 8x is a bit long.

Ok even though the drives showed dma mode go ahead and uninstall the ide controller like the guide showed.

See if that helps.

Next post back your pc specs and the make and model of the burner.

Have you done the following recently:
°Virus & Spyware Scan
°Disc Cleanup
°System defrag
If not do those too.

I have done everything except uninstalling/reinstalling the ide controllers. I will do this over the weekend because I have ran out of blank discs so I wont be able to test and see if this helps. I will post back to let you know what happens. Thanx again for the help.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!

Upon second check of my ide controllers I saw that one of them was set to PIO mode so I uninstalled/reinstalled it and PRESTO!! It worked great. I backed up my copy of V For Vendetta in less that 30min.

Thanx again...you are great!!
