Hello,

I am new to this. I have received the following error:

DVD Encountered an error and cannot continue
Invalid DVD navigation structure

Can someone tell me what this is and how it can be fixed.
Thanks I would really appreciate it.

I think FixVTS will handle that.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

hi rubyjane. can you tell us what software you are using that gives the error? is it the only thing you used? the free software methods include 1. dvd fab decrypter -> VOB blanker -> shrink -> burn (imgburn, etc.), 2. ripit4me. see below for download and guide links.

DVDFab Decrypter (Express): http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
VobBlanker: http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=580
DVD Shrink (and guide): http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

rubyjane,

If you are using Shrink this error means it can not handle the encryption on the movie, to get around this here is a little guide for you.

This is what to do if you are having trouble backing up your movies:

Here is the free way of making perfect backups:

1) DVDFab Decrypter - this wil break the movies encryption while ripping the movie to your HDD

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

2) VobBlanker - Not always needed, but it will get rid of any protection that DVDFD left behind. VobBlanker also allows you to blank, replace, cut and strip titles.

http://www.jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

3) DVDShrink - this will allow you to compress the movie to fit onto a blank DVD-5 disc. Select your output as an ISO image

http://filehippo.com/download_dvdshrink/

4) Imgburn - the best free burner around

http://www.imgburn.com/

Here are some guides:

The other free option:

RipIt4Me. I do not know anything about ripit4me so I will leave you with the excellent guide by arniebear. You can also download RipIt4Me from the same link.

The other way $$$$$

AnyDVD works in the background to automatically remove the copy protection of a DVD movie. All you have to do is start up AnyDVD and continue using your normal compression engine, whether it's shrink, recode or CloneDVD, It's that easy.

Before you pay for this excellent program you have a 21 day trial

What else to do to insure good quality back ups:

1) Update your dvdwriters firmware

2) Invest in good quality media Taiyo Yuden and Verbatims are best. Also look out for Maxell,Sony,Fuji, MIJ's (made in Japan) these are also extremely good blank media.

3) Burn @4x is a good place to start

Thanks everyone for trying to help me with my little problem here. I am using: DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15

I am going to try doing what pazzini has listed. Crossing my finger because this is a really good movie.

@rubyjane

any of the suggested methods ought to work, as long as you have the latest versions of each software (not sure how recent the dvd you are backing up is, but the more recent it is, the more necessary for current versions of the software (some, such as shrink and DVD Decrypter are no longer being updated, thus the need for the other current decryption tools)). let us know which method you used and how easy and successful it all was!

Thanks everybody, I was able to copy the movie to my hard drive using DVDFab Decrypter then burn it using DVD Shrink.

This was the second time that I had received this error message. The 1st time was when I wanted to burn Annapolis.

Again, I want to thank all of your help.

Have a GREAT Day/Evening...!

DVD Shrink doesnt have a burning engine built in so you had to use Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn not DVD Shrink
