mini dv to dvd nightmare!!

I am trying to convert mini dv footage to dvd. I have captured the footage to my hard drive as both .dv avi & .vob files (as i have tried several methods to do this)I am running Windows Xp & Windows 2000, but i get the same results regardless of the operating system I choose. The burner is a 'RICOH mp5125a'.I have tried using several bits of software including Nero, NeoDVD standard 4 & NeroVision Express.
What is happening is either the DVD+R burns showing as succesful, but appears to be blank regardless of which DVD player I stick it in. Or the whole process fails about halfway through the burn process.
So far out of 15 attempts only three have been succesful & play as a dvd should, the rest are all coasters.
I have been using Verbatim DVD+R's, I have also tried updating all of the software that i am using.
Can anyone help a desparate man?
