NEED HELP REINSTALLING MY BROADBAND MODEM!!!

I was having log on problems with my broadband. I used the software that came with the modem to uninstall it. When trying to reinstall it I kept getting the error message that I don;t have the right to make any changes or configureations and to rerun it from an administrators account.

I called dell who had me check and I had the proper admin rights. I set up a new user which had the correct rights aswell but it didnt work. I tried to install it on safe mode on both my account and the admin account but it still didnt work. I did a system restore to the last date possible and it still didn't work!

I need help as I'm getting frustrated!

Does ANYONE have ANY idea on what I should so. I'm having to use someone elses computer to try and figure out what to do!

McDawn, it's not always necessary to get help here by starting the thread in all caps! :)


What kind of modem is it? What software did it use?

Another way to connect to a modem without software, is to set the IP configuration to Automatic. I had a DSL modem from Earthlink, that came with a CD...used it once to connect but then after getting a router, none of the other computers needed the software to get on the internet. I even set those IPs manually.

Another thing you can try, is to reset the modem. Read up on the manual as to how, but for the most part it's just unplugging the power for about 5 minutes.

Ok. So if you are using USB to connect this modem to the computer yes you will have to go through the crappy install disc. But if you use ethernet you should just have to verify the modem is online and hook it up and you should be good to go. If not check your NIC. See that your connection in enabled. Also make sure that your NIC drivers are installed.

Oh yeah and by the way who is your ISP? Do they use static IP addressing or is the through a DHCP? DSL or Cable HSI?

well calling your provider will be a nice idea, but before that i had a similar problem today.

mcdawn try to post your question slowly i dont understand whats wrong your cd cannot be installed or you cant log into your account?

yeah and jziman in its probably a dsl

and mcdawn do you have windows xp?
