With a 360 it is much harder. You have to hack your firmware (your hitachi drive) to play backup games that you burn onto a cd after you mod the xbox. Xbox is much easier to mod, and if your new, i wouldn't reccomend it.

This is the way you do it on a regular xbox, but somewere I have read a tutorial on doing it to ur 360. I can't remember exactly where so you should google it. Ah Google it's a wonderful thing.

This tutorial is just used for skinning Halo 2. Doesn't matter whether it's for the Xbox or Xbox 360. About the warthog you don't need photoshop. Just skin it using this tutorial and then you need Halo2IB and you need to internalize the bitmap you edited. Back to the Xbox 360, if you are modding your new maps on your Xbox 360 you can either flash your firmware so that you can burn a backup with the modded maps or you can take apart your Xbox 360 harddrive and hook it up to your computer with a SATA cable or you can just use Datel's Xsata hardware which plugs onto your Xbox 360 where the harddrive goes and then the harddrive goes on top. Then using the supplied cord you plug it into a spare USB port on your computer and you can use Xplorer360 to access your harddrive. Then you can simply overwrite the new maps on your harddrive. But make sure they are resigned and you have backups just in case you screw up.

DXTBmp and Paint are very simple editing tools. You don't have to have photoshop to skin but it is better because of all the features it has. But back to the warthog. Just grab the warthog's bitmap, open it in DXTBmp and then send it to Paint. Then double click a color at the bottem and then click Define Custom Colors and using the color wheel and the bar find the gold you like. Grab the paint brush tool and start coloring the greenish color which is the frame. Then when your done, go to File and then Save and then maximize DXTBmp and then load after edit. It will pop up the edited one. Then click File, Save As.., DDS Texture and then save it as the format it was in DotHalo. Then once your done with that Inject it back into the map. Save the changes. Close DotHalo and open up Halo2IB and open up the map you were just editing and then locate the warthog bitmap you just edited. Click it and then click the Internalize button (Then a save changes button if there is one, can't remember). Then if it's an old map use something to fix the encryption or if it's a new map use a map resigner.

Yes you can do all that. Just if you edit a bitmap that's not a scenarios one then you need to internalize it with Halo2IB.

Ok well this really isn't the right thread to talk about this. You really should send me private messages but my gamertags are "x360x FuZ3" and "l PPF l FuZ3" I kind of stole the name FuZ3 from my friend that was his original gamertag. Then I started using it and have been since.

Yeah I followed this tutorial and it works like a charm :) ...
But I wote bitch on the cliffs in Sancuary. And I injected it onto dothalo but I din't FTP it to my xbox, I just did it as a test thingy to see if it worked, AND IT DID AWESOMELY!!! But now I forgot to make a backup of what the cliffs looked like before I skinned it, so now whenever I wan't to mod that map, I'm affraid that when I replace the map with MY modded map with some proj. swap or something, im afraid that the Bitmap with show up on the cliffs. http://www.metalcoremodz.com/ it is an awesome site with a really cool Golden Warthog skin if anyone wants the skin...

Well if you have a copy of the original map u can always use that and make sure you make a backup of all your original skins from that.

@xRunawayx
Some people don't have to delete the stuff in those folders and their skins work fine. For instance I haven't done it once and they work. I really don't know why some people have to and some people don't. I guess it just depends on your Xbox.

I think it also depends on what kind of linux OS they have since theirs so many different types out there. Theres really no way of telling how each one was programed and to do wat. So I you know lots of programing and have lots of useless time on your hands. Make ur own LOL.

Well you might not have to clear out those folders. Just try your mod without doing that and then come back if it failed.

Things you are going to need:

- Softmodded Xbox
- DotHalo v1.0b3.0: http://files.filefront.com/DotHalo+v10b3...;/fileinfo.html
- DXTBmp: http://files.filefront.com/dxtbmpxEXE/;5372377;;/fileinfo.html

Getting Started

First you are going to need to open your Halo 2 map, in which I am using Sanctuary (deltatap), and the DotHalo I have provided you with. If you have the same version you can just use that.

Then you are going to need to locate the [bitm] Bitmap tag.

Then for this tutorial I want to edit the cliffs so scroll down to scenarios\bitmaps\multi\deltatap\deltatap_cliffs

Then click "Extract Bitmap"

Then save it somewhere that you will remember where it is.

You must remember what format it's in.

Then open up DXTBmp.

Then click "File" and then "Open" and then locate the bitmap you just extracted. Then click open.

Then click "Image" and then "Send to Editor"

Then edit the bitmap however you want.

Then click "File" and then "Save"

Then maximize DXTBmp back up. Click "Image" and then "Reload After Edit"

Then click "File" then "Save As" and then "DDS Texture"

Look at the "Save as Type" and make sure it's the right format. If so click "Save"

It says it already exists so click "Yes" to overwrite it.

Then go back to DotHalo and go to the [bitm] Bitmap tag.

Then locate scenarios\bitmaps\multi\deltatap\deltatap_cliffs again. Click "Inject Bitmap"

Then find your edited bitmap and then click "Open"

You will get a message that says that it has been injected. Then click "Ok"

Then you will see your edited bitmap. Then click "Fix Encryption"

Then you can close DotHalo and FTP the map to your Xbox and then you will have to delete the temporary files out of X, Y, and Z drives in order for the skins to show up and then just start up Halo 2 and check out your skin!
