OK, what am I doing wrong?

When I do full disc, the disc ejects after it says that it has been copied. It sayus there is an error: "Cannot connect TRF"

It wants me to reinsert the disc.

Doing so leads to other errors.

Putting the new DVD+R into my burner seems to be the next step. I do this. I hit target device and there are several choices. It seems I am supposed to create an ISO file, so that's what I choose. I nominate a temporary folder.

I get failed to read file J. I have both imgburn and DVD Decrypter installed, and I follow the directions for putting the former into the latter. WHY WON'T IT BURN? How do I simply zap the files it took over half an hour to copy to the new disc?

What movie are you trying to backup?

I tried two of them, one a DVD-R and the other an R2 NTSC copyprotected from Japan.

Another problem has come up---whenever I click on the shortcut for DVDDecrypter, I get an error saying it can't find file C:\PROGRA~1\DVDREG~1\DVDRegionFree.exe

I have deleted it and reinstalled three times.

I also have AnyDVD to deal with region codes and macroguard.

When I mage the iso files, they seem to go into My Documents, but when I select them, there is no file name at the bottom, and nothing sensible typed there helps.

i'm not clear on exactly what error message you get when using what software. so you are running AnyDVD in the background while running DVD Decrypter? and decrypter is giving you the errors you mention? you wrote "disc ejects after it says that it has been copied". you mean you were burning the backup disk? or do you mean at the conclusion of ripping the original disk to the hard drive using DVD Decrypter? as to the shortcut not working, when you re-installed dvddecrypter did you remove the old shortcut and create a new one? not sure from your description what movies are in question. alternatives are to use the free dvdfabdecrypter -> VOB blanker -> shrink, or ripit4me. sounds like there are a lot of issues with the current decrypter setup on your computer. using the alternative methods would at least tell you if it is more likely the disks themselves are at fault.

We're making progress, thanks! Yes, when copying the original DVD, that's when it ejects, and says there's an error "Cannot connect TRF".

Yes, I deleted the shortcuts and closed the program with Control+Alt+delete and then deleted with the uninstaller included in All Progams.

I managed to figure out how to make Iso files---that's a big step!---but dvddecrypter still won't work...it says "DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME)" . Does this bring anything to mind?

Both discs I was able to copy using Sonic DigitalMedia, a truly horrible program with problems of it own, so that's a major step.

Question: can I make a blank file entitled like the one that's missing and just insert it into dvddecrypter? I deleted imgburn, too, with the same procedure. Maybe it will go away when I restart the computer...we can only hope.

Thanks for all your efforts here. It has been a very frustrating day!

Things are really moving along.

1. I copied another disc---no problem with the ejection!

2. dvddecrypter worked fine without the DeviceIoControl error!

3. The movie I was copying is "Kanaria", at 2:12 plus 0:38 of extras.

4. The C:\PROGRA~1\DVDREG~1\DVDRegionFree.exe can't be found comes up whenever I use the shortcut for either dvddecrypter OR dvdshrink.

If we can whip this last problem, I may have things under control. I couldn't find the Iso file (or any other file with the film) except in start>search, but it worked fine from there...not that I know WHY, you understand, but, hey, things are getting better!

Thanks again for your dedication here!

@ jpmccusa,
Quote:

u can delete those shortcuts on the desktop and create new ones,
Go to Program Files/Dvd decrypter and right-click and hold on the DVD Decrypter application and drag to the desktop and let go, then u should have options one being CREATE shortcut here, select that and u will have a shortcut that works.

Do the same with DVD Shrink.

All taken care of---million thanks to all three of you! Next step is to see whether AnyDVD proves to be optional, as I've read that it and dvddecrypter are somewhat incompatible...we'll see!

DVD Decrypter is no longer updated. while it will handle older dvds and newer dvds with little or older, weaker encryptions, it will not work with newer more current advanced encryption dvds. running AnyDVD in the background will solve that problem. AnyDVD is not really incompatible with DVD Decrypter, especially if you configure DVD Decrypter specifically to run with AnyDVD in the background:
1. under "tools" menu -> settings -> I/O -> interface -> select "ElbyCDIO-Elaborate Bytes"
2. under "tools" menu -> settings -> general -> UNselect "check for structure protection"

as i wrote earlier the other ways to remove current encryptions both use all free software (in case you have the trial version of AnyDVD and don't want to purchase it after the trial expires) are 1.dvdfabdecrypter -> VOB blanker -> shrink, or 2. ripit4me.

good luck with backing up your dvds and let us know if we might be able to help.
