I got a bit of a problem. When I attempt to playback any video type, XP freezes, have to manually reboot. Just done a clean install on an IDE hdd (40 gig) I also run a 300 gig SATA hdd and caused me some problems with install, for example once XP was installed it would not boot unless the install cd was in the drive, then it would boot to the hdd. This seemed to have been solved by disconnecting the SATA and making a change in the bios settings. After a few teething problems with a slight overclock everything was going kinda ok, until I tried to watch a video and bam, XP freezes up. I tried installing windows media player 10, then 11. then removed all the codecs, then tried to update the video codecs and video capture via the device manager, but windows keep saying that it has the latest( and thats after searching the mobos driver cd )drivers. The SATA hdd is where my movie files are and this drive can be accessed on the house network. So I tried to play a movie from another pc and it played no probs. The version of Xp is a few years old but always kept up to date, especialy after a clean install, I've never had this problem before. Any ideas? Cheers.

It's usually a driver/firmware problem, which you can solve by downloading updated drivers/firmware for your Mobo.

i do have the latest firmware for my mobo. i got it from the dell website. this is actually a problem that ive been trouble shooting for a little while now and can't solve. i've looked through dozens of websites with people who have similar problems and no real solution. ive tried tons of different suggestions to no avail.

im actually quite savy with computers and not a newb but that's ok, i just want to solve this issues once and for all. any other suggestions would truly help, i wish joe777 would have posted the solution we have all been looking for as to just writing in "fixed", we could have all benefitted from his solution (maybe).
