im using the verbatim recommended running at half speed, ive tried other ones like maxell and still they flickering, im mainly having trouble with DQ8, no matter what i do, it always flickers, same with some other games, what could it be?

Sounds like you are running an NTSC game on a PAL TV that doesn't support NTSC signals (or vice versa)
You need to use a converter. Eg PAL2NTSC (or NTSC2PAL) patcher with y-fix to reposition the screen.
Or if you're in a PAL territory, then buy a fully wired RGB Scart lead for PS2.
