I know, I know, there are "some" places where this has been asked, but I'm going to be a little more specific. I've just gotten into editing video and from my practice edits, I'm all over the place using different formats, different sizes, etc. I was using an older analog video camcorder, but just bought a new Sony Handycam DCR-HC36 and am ready to take it up a notch.

I've gone back and forth between using the following two software packages, Windows Moviemaker, and Pinnacle Studio version 9 that came packaged with my old Dazzle hardware. I have Muvee and Sonic that came with my HP, but haven't really given them any time. So, here are my questions...

1-What format and size is best for recording video to burn to a DVD to watch on a television?
2-What format and size is best for recording video to stream online?

I want to put streaming video on YouTube.com to share with friends from my website. If you have any other tips, like what better software to use, please, feel free to throw it at me!

Thanks!

I would love to thank everyoneo that has looked at this and not responded. I didn't know this was such an incredibly hot topic and so many people would overload the forum with suggestions for me.

I use Studio 9 to capture the video from camcorder. The file ends up as AVI. Then burn to DVD.

Works great except AVI's are large and need to be compressed if you want to store a lot of them.

Thank you very much for being the only one to reply to me. Seriously, I figured a forum this populated would have someone help out. I use Pinnacle 9 also, but just wasn't sure what looked best to output to a DVD to watch back on a television without breaking down the quality.
