@Steve7481

If you have a Dell pc then you need to get your manual out and check it for adding drives. Most Dell have the Jumpers set to CABLE SELECT not master-slave.

hello Steve7481,
Quote:
Is there a way I can install my hard drive using the extra SATA cable I have?
Just wondering how many SATA connections do u have on ur MotherBoard?
2? if u have 1 free then u can do this

I connected my Old IDE connector HD to a Sata connection(On my motherboard) using an IDE conversion to Sata device, i got this from Frys electronics for like 5$.

Anyway this device connects to the back of the HD with an IDE connector and then on the front of this device u connect the Sata cable to it and the motherboard and of course u power the HD on this device and thats it, i hope i didn't write this so it sounds more complicated then it is, it is really simple to do.

GARMOON - I wouldn't even know where to begin to look for the manuals.

300 - I think I might have to invest in that. For some reason when I play MP3s that are located on the 2nd HD they "skip". Maybe not having it connected using the IDE cable will help. Who knows.

I think I'm just gonna give up on this whole DMA/PIO thing. Before I reformatted I got it working fine and was ripping DVDs in less than 20 minutes. I guess I'll just deal with it now. Doesn't seem like there is any solution to it for whatever reason.

Thanks to all that have bared with me and tried to help in the last week.

@Steve

Go to Dell's site and get your manual. If you're connecting with IDE your drives should probably be connected with the jumpers set to "cable select" (end of cable, Master; and Slave, to middle of cable) all jumpers set to cable select.
