first timer burning an ISO and an MDS

this is a movie that a downloaded. i was told, "it's a straight rip with DVD Decrypter, completely unedited (so it has all the extras still on it)." as the title states, the download contained one 6.74 GB ISO and one 8.24 KB MDS
I have never burning anything but a data dvd using Nero so i have no idea what i'm doing. I really, really tried reading a bunch of guides. the problem is pretty much all guides start from the ripping stage so i get lost right off the bat.
I am aware that this movie will only fit on a DVD9 without editing so i bought some dvd9s today (shrinking it may be a little over my head at this point, right?)
if i only need one program to burn this (i already have Nero) then it would be great if someone could tell me which program and a short set of instructions (if it's that simple). if this is asking too much then could someone at least point me in the right direction with an appropriate, up to date guide?

You don't need DVDShrink, if you have a full version of Nero you could make it fit on a DVD5 with Recode.
I would first mount the ISO and see if it plays. You could use DaemonTools (free) or Nero's own ImageDrive. With ImageDrive, set the dropdown to ISO and point it to the ISO, mount it and see if it plays properly with whatever software you use. I use Nero ShowTime. At this point you could open this virtual disc in Nero Recode to shrink it if you like.
Nero burns DL but most prefer ImgBurn (free, the remains of DVDDecrypter).

sorry that wasn't very clear. i meant to say that i went out and bought a bunch of dvd9s. i do not have an encoding program and i have not touched the download

yes i realize it's possible to get this movie to fit on a DVD5 but i don't want to reduce the quality or remove the extras. i'd like to keep it as is if possible.

I covered that, you also said "(shrinking it may be a little over my head at this point, right?)", which denotes a desire but not the skill, that's why I mentioned Recode.

Download and open Imgburn, browse to the MDS file and burn.

I would still mount it in a virtual drive first, to make sure it actually plays correctly before wasting a DL disc.

DVDDecrypter is old news these days and hasn't been updated in a while.
ImgBurn is the one you should have tried it's been tweaked especially for DL burning. I even provided the link. Oh well. Also many aren't too fond of the Ritek DL media.

thanks for such quick responses.
alright i've installed imgburn. i double clicked the MSD of the movie i want to burn and imgburn opened. do i want to have 'verify' checked, or no?
I'm getting a popup when i try to burn it. the popus says "Cannot set the layer break position when burning DVD-R DL media in DAO mode. Do you want to continue?"
I said no because i don't want to reck another disc, so the burn is cancelled. should i just continue or do i have to adjust the settings?

Another thing to note is +R Double Layer discs have much better standalone DVD compatability that the -R Dual Layer discs.

+R DL only have better standalone capability if booktyped to DVD-Rom, try your -R DL and see if they work. My older DVD players will not play +R DL media unless booktyped.

Isn't that why anyone would choose +R media in the first place, because it can be set to DVD-ROM? +R DL are the ones to use for video, the -R DL are best used for data storage and all the new decent drives now booktype +R.

We are are discussing the best app to use for burning DL, ImgBurn beats DVDDecrypter hands down. If you were to peruse the changelogs for ImgBurn you would see over a dozen items related to improving DL burning. DVDDecrypter has it's uses but for DL burning ImgBurn is the superior app.

Yes +R DL is the better media, however as stated only if booktyped. Many people do not know about booktyping, and end up here wondering why the product does not work on their standalone. Yes many newer burners booktype, but many posters still have older drives. For burning yes ImgBurn is superior, that is not what I stated. What I stated is the DVDD still works, and need not be relegated to a closet because it is no longer updated. DVDD is more all purpose than ImgBurn.

Wouldn't it have been more effective to explain booktyping/bitsetting or post a link to a guide and FAQ rather than trying to make all of us look stupid? I think I see a pattern forming here.

my HDD is formatted in NTFS
i bought a pack of verbatim DL+R and i'm still having the same problem at the calculator step
do i need to extract the iso to properly follow this guide?

You can backup with either an ISO or VIDEO_TS folder..what problems are you having?
