Ringtone will not play through bluetooth headset

I have a cingular razr V3 that i'm able to dump mp3 files to and play through the phone as ringtones, or just as media. I also have a southwing sh310 bluetooth headset that I have successfully attached to the V3. It seems to me that if the headset is capable of playing realtime audio from the phone, it should be able to play my mp3 ringtones into the headset for a ringtone. would this be an issue with the headset, or the phone. the instructions on the headset indicate that this is possible. in fact, they even go so far as to state that if the phone is capable of it, that it will override the custome ringtone in the headset. Is there some secret bit to flip here, or am I S.O.L.?
