Hope someone can point me in the right direction. Recently, I was forced to reinstall XP64 and have everything back to normal except my DVD/CD drives. Both are NEC 3500A with updated firmware. Prior to the OS reinstall I had no problems burning DVDs but this one has me stumped.

Using "my computer", the drives show correctly "DVD-R", I can play a DVD without a problem. However, when I put a blank DVD in it reads the disk as a standard CD, not a DVD disk. As a result, none of my burn programs recognize the drive and gives me an error that the drive can't be accessed. The icon in "My Computer" also changes from the DVD label and shows as a CD.

I'm using Verbatim blanks (same ones I've used for a long time)and do not consider those to be the root cause.I've tried numerous ones eliminating a bad disk cause

Any help would be appreciated!

Any suggestions?
