and still no burning....
HELP PLEASE
What exactly (type it here) is the error message that you are getting? If we know that, it may help to solve the problem.
I assume you followed these steps when creating the Video_TS folder:
-------------------------
- CLEAN the source DVD before you put it into your machine to rip it. You'll be surprised how often this can solve problems.
- When the DVD appears on the desktop, PLAY it using your favourite media player for a few seconds (DVD Player, VLC whatever)
- Use the LATEST working versions of rip and compression software that you can find.
- RIP the DVD to your HD using the appropriate setting of MTR. Full disc copy or movie only. Watch for any errors produced by MTR whilst you are ripping, since the DVD may have a protection system that MTR cannot pass. If this happens you may need a newer version. Try ripping with no other programs running, and disconnect the internet.
- Place the VIDEO_TS file and empty AUDIO_TS file (make one if MTR doesn't generate one) into a new folder called NAME_OF_THE_FILM (in capitals).
- COMPRESS the new folder to a size that will fit onto a single layer DVD. Please note that this is NOT 4.7 GB. Try 4300 to 4400 MB. You can compress with Popcorn, TOAST 7 or DVD2OneX for example. If you are going to burn to a dual layer DVD, you may not even need to compress the file.
- If compressing with DVD2OneX, you may want to disable background programs and the internet connection once again.
- If compressing then burning with TOAST 7, make sure that your HD has enough FREE DISK SPACE for TOAST to fill its RAM cache, or to make an image of the disk on your HD. Make sure that you select the 'DVD-video from video TS' option, and that you also select the 'fit-to-DVD compression' check box in the side bar of the VIDEO burning tab.
If you are just going to burn an already compressed film, drop the whole folder (with the Video_TS and Audio_TS files) into TOAST using the 'Data' tab option. Select 'DVD-ROM (UDF)' as the option from the side bar and burn it like regular DVD with no further compression.
- Burn at a slower speed than the maximum of your DVD burner.
- Use HIGH QUALITY media. This can be very impoprtant and in the end save you a lot of money, even if the initial cost of the DVDs is higher.
-------------------------
Hopefully one of these steps will help you out. Try clearing some space on your HD. Try cleaning the source DVD and try using a new version of MTR with nothing running inthe background to cause a glitch in the ripped data.
If none of this helps get back to us with more info.
thanks Rumblefix...
I will try all those tips you have given me.
The one thing i have noticed wehm i was using T_S to dvd tab option the compress box was ticked in the side draw but not highlited. This was automatic i ahd no control and could not chnage it.
Would you suggest DVD2One for compression ?
DVD2OneX works about 80% of the time for me, but I have an old version (1.4.2). I'd recommend getting the latest version (2.05). Eventually I'll get around to using it myself. I find it very slow, but that is a problem with my machine which is carved from stone and is steam powered. The quality of compression is very good though, and you have the option to remove individual cells, languages or titles that popcorn (under TOAST 7) doesn't give you yet.
The DVD from Video_TS option may be checked automatically because the Video_TS file that you are trying to burn is too big for the DVD, so Toast automatically sets the option.(Make sure your video_TS folder is named like that "Video_TS" and not "video T_S")
You may want to reinstall Toast anyway just to make sure it's not a problem with the program, and add any recent updates available from the roxio site. But check the forums (there, here and perhaps at versiontracker.com) to see if the latest updates actually work ok before you install them.
