I don't know really if this should go on software or hardware, so I'm posting it here. The thing is I have a second HD in my computer which until recently has been attached to the IDE2 as master. However after opening my computer up and giving it a complete makeover, I noticed that by putting the 2nd HD as a slave with the first (in IDE1) and making the DVD burner the master for the second IDE (really I just switched the DVD and the 2nd HD) things looked cleaner, I could space my stuff more apart, cause it wouldn't be on the IDE cable's limit and etc... Conclusion, switching it was better. However I had 2 partitions on this HD, and when I started my pc with the new setup, it said the HD wasn't formated... so I switched it back, everything goes back to normal. So really, I want my new setup to work, but I can't back up right now. Is there a way of doing this switch without having to format the HD?

Thanks in advanced
BTW: I removed the jumper (master) from the HD, and in my HD specifically no jumper means slave. Maybe putting the jumper in some setting like cable select or whatever would solve it, I dunno, but I'm brainstorming here, hope someone can give me feedback on this or an answer... or both! :D

Put on every jumpers on cable select mode.

Go to your BIOS and check if the detection of the drives are in AUTO.
