Has anyone successfully backed up Poseidon with Shrink? I ripped it with DVDFab Decrypter, but Shrink doesn't recognize the Main Movie.

shouldn't be a problem. make sure you have the latest version of fab (NOT the beta) and run it through VobBlanker prior to shrink. let us know if that works for you.

Yeah, this title shouldn't be a problem. I don't recall a WB movie causing troubles. Any of the latest versions of the program should rectify the problem.

I've used both the beta and lastest non-beta of DVDFab Express (on different machines: one having the beta, the other non-beta) and running the output files through VobBlanker. Still can't use Shrink. Is there anything I need to do special with VobBlanker?

I did DVDFab Express and Vob Blanker and first I did Nero Recode and just backed up the main movie... when I watched it the very end of the movie stuttered really bad. So I tried again but used DVD Shrink instead and the copy was perfect.

Again, Poseidon ain't all that, it's easy as sippin' on a Corona. Yep, simple as that. And here we go again, as usual, all FREE methods:

- DVDFAB Decrypter to rip
- VobBlanker to process/clean the VIDEO_TS.IFO file from DVDFAB
- DVD Shrink to transcode the VIDEO_TS file from VobBlanker
- DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the final ISO

- RipIt4Me (DVD Decrypter to rip)
- FixVTS to process/clean the movie
- DVD Shrink to transcode the movie
- DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the final ISO

@rhpt

could you tell us exactly what error message you get, and when, while using shrink? as others have said, they've had no problems using the fab -> VobBlanker -> shrink method, so wondering what the problem might be for you. there shouldn't be anything special to do with blanker. i assuming you read one of the guides. just click on the "process all" to the right of the upper window displaying all the files, and then "process" at the bottom of the window. the movie runs through both fab and VobBlanker with no problems?

@Cinch

using the same media i presume with both Nero and shrink. do you have the target size the same in both? if you have a "custom" size in shrink, and it is smaller than in Nero, and you are using inexpensive media, writing less close to the outer edge (the smaller target size) could account for the better playback.

When I open the DVD in Shrink, the main movie file is only 22 minutes long and 777mb. This is after VobBlanker and it is the same before VobBlanker. Does it matter that I'm using DVDFab Express? I've never had a problem like this before with DVDFab Express. This is very odd ...

not quite clear what you are saying here (above). are you saying that the file that is output by dvdfabdecrypter is 777mb? if so, then the movie is not being ripped properly by fab, since it should obviously be a much much larger file. i'd suggest trying ripit4me and see if dvddecrypter (with the imported psl) will properly decrypt the whole movie. if not, it could be that you have a bad pressing. assume you have cleaned the disk and looked to see if it is scratched.

I ripped the DVD with DVD Decrypter, used VobBlanker, and burnt it with Shrink. Everything worked out fine. Very strange that I had so much problems with DVDFab.

Thanks for all the help everybody!

@ rhpt, well nevermind if u got it to work, also i only use DVDFab decrypter when it is a sony or Disney movie, decrypter should work for all the rest.

I was surprised the movie fit on a single-layer disk uncompressed. :)

@rhpt

glad to hear you got it to work. like i said, others have ripped it with fab with no problems, so why it didn't work for you will have to go into the "mystery" file.

@mattym123

1. even though the cost for AnyDVD is relatively small, 2. the other programs are free and 3. it's more "fun" and more "hands on" to use fab/vobblanker and/or ripit4me. other than that, just personal preference.

@newbies or those that needed helps DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.8.3 should be able to rip POSEIDON (US, Region 1) into the hard drive easily. Well, if you're the few (like me), who likes to "process, blank or clean" out unwanted junks via VobBlanker, then do as the following and you'll be fine. Good luck and enjoy the "mini guide". **NOTE: this is once DVDFAB Decrypter 2.9.8.3 has successfully ripped POSEIDON into the hard drive already. <><><> STEP 2: processing the VIDEO_TS.IFO through VobBlanker <><><> - Why it needs to? Because it can clean/filter out any left over corrupted/structural cells, etc. Furthermore, it can blank out any unwanted junks (i.e. FBI Warnings, Trailers, Extras, etc.) The choice is yours, I can wait 5 minutes and rather have a perfect backup in the end. <><><> STEP 3: Transcode the movie with DVD Shrink <><><> - Actually, this is just a "mini guide to demonstrate for this movie POSEIDON only. <><><> STEP 4: Burning the VIDEO_TS file with Nero Burning Rom <><><> - Again, just the very basic steps to show that POSEIDON is pretty simple to backup that's all.

@alkohol

thanks for the mini-guide! i do have a question regarding the parts you chose to delete using blanker. when you select a title set in the upper window and see the pgcs in the lower window of blanker, did you eliminate (blank) the ones you chose because they were "extras" you didn't want or because they were some kind of authoring/encryption problems? (from vts_01 you blanked all the pgcs except 01 entry.)and if the latter can you tell by previewing them? just curious as to why you chose to blank what you did and exactly what kind of "junk" they were. thanks.

@surfgeo

Yes, those PGC's Entry from VTS_01_*.VOB are the extras from the movie, I didn't really want to keep them. However, I believe VTS_02 & VTS_03 may have some bogus cells on it because when I preview/play, there is basically nothing, just some tiny blank cells only. So, I decided to blank all of them out.

Good luck and happy burning.

thanks for the response to my question re what you chose to blank. i have also looked at some of those smaller cells and pgcs that are blank (nothing but black when previewed/played in VobBlanker) and wondered if they were some functional part of the dvd or just junk. is your experience that anytime you see something like that, that those can be deleted without any problems arising for the competed dvd? i usually don't even bother with them since they are typically so small in size that they won't really effect the amount of compression by more than 1% or so. just wondering in case i ever see some that add up to a larger amount of space. thanks again.

I did Poseidon with AnyDVD and ImgBurn in ISO modes to a +R DL Verb disc. Perfection. No visible layer break.
