Hello fellow auditors,

I've been making my own dvd's for a while. I use VSO to convert the original files. Next I import those into TMPGEnc DVD Author to add a nice menu. There is just one problem I'm facing: When you are editing the menu there is this TV option. If you click it you see the square that will be visible when you play the DVD. This mean that something like the outer 5% will fail. So the image you are using will not be shown completely. Also I noticed that the video file is "missing" the top/bottom/sides. So the media you are watching is smaller on tv then with the original file on the computer. Is there anyway I can change this so it will fully show the menu and material? Thanks a lot in advance. Once I've got this down I will be finally completely happy with my "end product". Greetings!

Rob.

Haven't used TMPGEnc DVD Author, but it sounds like you are describing the 'safe zone' where you want important elements, text etc. to fall into. Your PC will show the whole vid, your TV will not due to 'overscan'. You could lose anywhere from 5 to 10+% around the edges when viewed on a TV. That's just the way it is if you are planning to watch on a TV, you just have to accept it.

Thank you very much! It is indeed overscan. I didn't know this existed, I was even trying to add a new border to my pictures for the menu's so this border would fall in the overscan zone and the rest would still be visible. But then I would still have the problem of not a full screen video. I guess the only way to change that is buying a tv with minimal overscan ;-).

Or...., what if you play the movie on the computer and put it to your tv with tv-out? You probably still get the overscan... but maybe not. I've never used this system, if anyone knows if I'd works or not I'd appreciate if you'd posted the answer.
Thanks again for solving this annoying problem for me!
Greetings!

Rob.
