Just a question guys, im reading all this stuff about bricked PSP's and in my line of work i kinda know what that means, flash starts to write and it doesnt end writing, so its nowhere. Now about what i do,
i work with satelite TV receivers, there is flashing involeved sometimes like 50 times a day on wholle different brands and models, often they bring me a unknown model thats ussualy a clone of something , and the soft you think its right is usslay just a little different, mostly in the bootloader, just enough to "brick" your receiver in to none working state. Same goes if you pull out the power whille flash is being writen. So in that case there are flashdumps for every model of a receiver that are ussualy writen by an outside cable directly on the motherboard, or better yet, and what i think you can do with a PSP, remove the flash from the motherboard, place it on a flash programmtor, and dump anything you want in it,a Sony PSP original SW dump for example, a dump is everything from A to Z,along with the loader, so if placed back on the mobo it shouldnt be any difference, like it never was bricked. Whats stoping you to fix a bricked PSP like that? Sorry if its a stupid question, i have a PSP for like a week, but we've been doing this so often ite the logical thing to think for me.

yep, you have what is known to us all as a half brick.
now, are you running a custom firmware like 3.03OEC?
if so, hold down the right shoulder button during a coldboot(powered on after the unit is completely powered down, take the battery out to make sure if you have to)
you should be in recovery menu.
now go to enable usb and connect your psp to your computer.
on your computer, get the 1.50 firmware dump form qj.net and place it in psp/game/recovery as eboot.pbp on your memory stick.
now, on the psp, still in the recovery menu, go to the run program at psp/game/recovery/eboot.pbp
hopefully you get the 1.50 firmware recovery and can continue on to reupgrade to your custom firmware.

if this doesnt help you then i cant help you.
hope it does

i am so stupid for wanting to go back to the old one. i had 3.03oec and with custom icons etc but i wanted the old ones so i flashed it with the orignals (flash0 and flash1 i found on pspiso) and it semi bricked. i fort it was just the files so i copied my friends flash0 n flash1 from his psp into mine. it bricked. but i gona try and take it back to GAME and say i was playing x-men legends 2 and it turned off i fort it was the battery so i pluged in the charger and turned it on and the green light came on with the screen lit but still dark and shut oof later. tried to book it and that time the screen was totaly black. can u replace it. find out tomorow if they will buy it!

Hi everyone,

I have all the symptoms of my psp being bricked. It was running 3.10OE-A. Here's what happened. I was playing SNES Rom Final Fantasy II. Turned it off, turned it back on the next day and it was resuming play, I pressed the HOME button because I wanted to play my UMD. It got stuck on the please wait screen. I couldn't turn it off with the switch, so the only way was to get the battery out. When I tried powering back on, I get the "bricked" psp symptoms. Is it possible that my psp got bricked this way? Any help is appreciated.

well you should not have exited snes9 with the home button, it causes problems, just go to the snes9 menu (usually by pressing L+R) and exit from there from now on.
as for your psp, you will have to supply some info about what it is doing for me to tell you what might be wrong, symptoms doesn't exactly tell me anything.
PM me if you must or just reply on this thread for all to see.
either way i will help you with what i can.
hope to hear from you soon

Thanks for the reply. What I mean is that I power on the PSP. green light comes on for a couple seconds, then nothing at all happens. I've tried it with the charger plugged in, charger and no battery, left the battery out overnight, hold R while turning it on... *sigh*...

The idea is simple yes but home many people on here do you think could actualy desolder they're flash chips and then pay for a eprom flasher of some sort and then resolder the chip back onto they're psp's without messing it all up ? I had to send my psp mobo's to singapore to get them unbricked. The person who did mine install a UP chip which piggybacks the actual psp flash memory chip and enables you to write to the psp via a usb connection. If you can come up with a route via the usb connection to the eprom so we could reflash the mobo via a pc we would all be gratefull.

make sure you are holding R down before you turn it on and continue to hold R down until you are in the recovery menu.
if that doesnt work, then i would have to say you are fucked my friend.
i dont know how your snes emulator could possibly have bricked your psp but it happened, i wish you the best of luck with your problem.

Which motherboard do you have?
You have to downgrade to 1.5 then you can install a recovery menu or just upgrade to custom firmware with recovery built in.

Hi, I'm not really familiar with psp's but I was told "Downgrage it, it'll be awesome!" I'm regretting it now.. followed instructions to downgrade 2.71 to 1.50, and i think I have a semi-brick state.
The psp turns on and I have a black screen, it takes about 5 minutes to display the interface, but as soon as I press a button it goes black again, It's like some kind of reverse screen saver. I can very slowly navigate through the psp's menus but I'm not quite sure what to do, is it broken, bricked, semi bricked, or something obvious?

Thanks in advance.

Ok I thought I may have just answered my own question..
As soon as i unplugged it from the mains it was fine.. So I thought thats cool, all sorted.. Buut I left it without the cable in for a while (around 5 mins) and it went black again.. So i plugged in the cable and it worked again, until i leave it then it doesn't work until I remove the cable. It really is like a reverse screen saver and the only way to get rid of it is to switch between the mains and battery power.

So, I guess I can live with it, but any ideas?

i have a question for all you psp gurus out there. the day i bought my psp i downgraded from 2.71 sony firmware to 1.5 . i believe i partially bricked my psp (the screen flickered on and off, but i had sound.) it did this for about a day or two. i took it back to the store to exchange it and when the girl took it out of the box it was up and running. the screen was perfect and there seemed to be no problems with it what so ever. its been about a month since this incident and i have yet to encounter any problems. i am now on 3.03 oe C. is it possible that my psp will brick itself out of no where? i am just scared that 6 weeks, 5 days, 29 minutes, and 3 seconds from now it will go back to that semi brick mode for no apparent reason. any help with this is much appreciated.

if you believe that the psp's flash is unstable then just reinstall 3.03 oe-c (just run the update again) and that will replace the flash so any unstable files will be dealt with.

pm me with any psp problems i know quite alot even if it includes a ta-082.

I guess I can contribute to this topic now :) I am a newbie :D and a fool I guess. I bought a refurb psp from ebay and comes with 3.10oe-a I got it and tried to play without any UMD on it, and it didn't work so I went into the recovery menu and the screen goes black for about a minute until the menu show up, but when I tried to press any button the screen goes black again.

So I figure, hmmm... partial brick hexitnow winstaller 1.50 recovery. So I did and I flashed it back to 1.50, after it's all completed and told me to restart manually, the screen goes black ocmpletely and the psp opening sound played, but no logo, no menu, just black and then the funny thing is it shows the same behavior as the recovery menu. The menu would show up in a minute or so but goes black as soon as I press a button... I just got it for about 30 minutes :D

wanzx, I had the same problem, just keep messing about with it, like starting it whiles it plugged into the mains and while it isnt, also check the brightness button, after messing about with it, mine seems to be fixed, I don't think the black screen sate means it's a brick/semi-brick.

Hope that helps.

Hello all,

I downgraded from 2.71 to 1.5 on my ta-081 with no problems, then installed 3.10 oe-a. Used it for about a week and a half.

Thinking i was completely safe from a brick, i had been putting it in sleep mode during the game world series poker (playing from iso). One day i tried to turn it on and it was bricked. Not semi but completely. Cannot even access the recovery menu.

It seemed very strange because I am very careful about even not turning it off during saving, etc. Although I don't think that would cause it, it would be the blue screen of death, which is not a big deal.

So I am kinda scared about using homebrew software after i fix my psp.

Any ideas??

PS. I originally posted this on another thread, then realized this would be more appropriate.

it asked me to confirm and press x... i did.... and then nothing
the mem stick light flashed on then of then on... i can still get into the recovery menu.. but dont have a clue what to do...
If any one can help me then please contact me or post here... im on the verge of tears and its my fault... please help... dummy terms would be appreciated..
