I read that RedHawk Vision's Video Pics, and Re:Vision Effects' ReelSmart FieldsKit can create good quality stills from video. Are there any other programs that can do it without the need for third party programs, or are more user friendly?

Give Advanced X Video Converter a try. It can easily extract still pictures from a video.

You can get a free trial from http://www.aoamedia.com/videoconverter.htm

After you launch the program, click on "Add Task", choose "Convert Video to Pictures", and then follow the instructions. It's pretty easy!
