I've had quite a bit of success in the past burning CDs but this one has got me butting my head against the wall. CD1 of this 2 disc set burned perfectly using Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6. When I went to burn CD2 I had nothing but trouble. Using Roxio all 14 tracks are cached and the Table of Contents written to the blank disc with 54% overall progress shown. Then the following errors: E: NECDVD+RW ND-2100AD (Power calibration error [03/73/03]), E: NECDVD+RW ND-2100AD ["Invalid field in CDB." [05/24/00]). When I tried it using CD Clone, this was the error: Writing to CD failed, MEDIUM ERROR (3:0X0c:0X00). Then I went to Nero Express and the error read Burn Process failed at 32X(4800KB/s). Power calibration error. I also tried to burn by using CD X Rescue and Roxio 6. That also failed without an error message. It just ceased to operate. I tried the burns described on a Dell 8300. CD1 was ripped on a slower Compaq 8000 where CD2 failed using Roxio and Nero 6. Is there something wrong with the disc or do I need new burning software.
1.This could be an indication that the burner is incorrectly recognizing the media you're using and therefore unable to apply the correct write strategy for a successful burn. I would suggest you make sure the burner's firmware is upto date so check with the manufacturer's site.
If the drive is a dell oem (Dell NEC ND-2100AD), you can flash it with firmware version 103D provided by 'The Dangerous Brothers'. You can get the firmware here as well as the flashing utility:
Look for: Currently supplied as binaries suitable for flashing in DOS. The packages include original stock firmware, RPC1 with Rip Lock, and Rip Lock only. 103D, 104E, and 1.26.
BETA TDB Windows Flasher. The packages include original stock firmware, RPC1 with Rip Lock, and Rip Lock only. 103D, 104E, and 1.26.
2. This could also be an indication that you're using poor quality media, try using a brand considered to be of good quality (like sony or verbatims).
Power calibration error:
1. This could be an indication of poor quality media, try different media and also update the drives frimware to increase media/drive compatibility.
2. This could also indicate a problem with the drive, if a media change and firmware update don't solve the problem, then there may be an issue with the drive, just something to consider.
Burn Process failed at 32X(4800KB/s)
In my opinion your trying to burn too darn fast, if the media is of poor quality it's going to cause problems. slow it down to 24X and keep it there for a greater chance at success.
The software you're using is fine, I currently use both with great success (I prefer Nero).
For your info: If you have both installed, make sure you do not install both of their packet writing applications (nero's INCD and Roxio's Drag to Disk), choose only one, if you have both install they will conflict with eachother and cause problems.
I tried the burn on my Compaq 9000 using Roxio Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 running at 8X(4 MB/s)with the following results: 12 of the 14 tracks burned with the burn failing in the middle of the 13th track. The errors were: E IDE DVD-ROM 16X ("Illegal mode for this track" [05/64/00]) and F LiteOn DVD RW CDW811S ("Device error" [02/3A/08]). Could there be a problem with the disc?
