I have been using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter for a long while and just recently, I started getting errors using the decrypter. They started around the same time as I had a power surge (I think while I was burning). Assuming that the DVD Shrink and Decrypter programs had corruptions, I re-installed them. Unfortunately, I still had errors on most (but not all burns). At first I thought that the recent "ISO" files may have corruptions, so I tried burning old files that I had previously had success with. Still same problem. I also tried to "Shrink" and "Burn" a new DVD and was successful. (Now this really confused me).
The actual message looks like this:

I/O Error!
Device: [2:0:0] HP DVD Writer300n 3.11 300n (E:) (ATA)

ScSi Status: 0 x 02
Interpretation: Check Condition

CDB: 2A 00 00 1C F8 00 00 00
Ihnterpretation: Write (10) - Sectors: 1898946 - 1898527

Sense Area: 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 00

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Hi johnl1961
Update the firmware on the drive and see if this helps - the latest is 3.20. Here's a link:

What media are you using w/ the rated burn speed - like Sony +R 8x etc.

Any difference in the burn speed you set in Shrink from the one you used in Decrypter?

Hi Binkie,

Thanks very much for your response.

I updated the firmware.

I have been using Vakoss DVD+R RW 1-8x for a couple of years with no problems.
I checked DVD Decrypter and found that I had the burn speed set at "Max". Will change to 8x and see how it works.

Didn't realize you could set the burn speed in DVD Shrink. Where can you set the speed?

Thanks a ton.

John.

Looks like the max burn speed on this drive is 4x - so set it at that.

When you click 'back up' go to the burn settings tabs (see pic)
Shrink uses Nero's burn engine to burn.

Since it is an older burner - if you still have problems try a dvd lens cleaner or different media like Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell. For your drive look for media w/ a rated burn speed 8 or lower.

Keep us posted.

Thanks again for your help. Eventually bought a new burner which sorted out the problem.
However, one additional problem arose. I must have missed some setting on DVD Decrypter when I re-istalled it as, now, my burned DVDs don't work in my DVD player. They do work on my PC. While my DVD player is an older model (about 6 year old Toshiba), it was never a problem in the past (prior to re-installing DVD Decrypter).
Any thoughts?

Hi johnl1961
Hmmm my thinking is you were booktyping them w/ the HP before? Some older players don't accept the +R format unless it is booktyped to DVD-Rom.

What's the make and model of the drive you got? Still using the Vakoss DVD+R 8x media?

Still using the Vakoss 8x.
New drive is a Liteon16x DVD +-R / +- RW Drive.

What does "booktyped" mean?

Thanks,

John.

Booktyping a +R to DVD-Rom changes a field in the DVD to make the disc appear as a DVD-Rom. Almost universally compatible.

Your LiteOn booktypes (good drives too btw!). So next time you burn in decrypter set it to booktype the disc to DVD-Rom. This may do the trick.

one other possibility after a power surge is corruption in your operating systems files or dll. so you might want to look at that I almost bought a new lightscribe after only haveing an new one 6 months and paying over $150 for it. I decided to reload my entire system and glad I did now everything works great no problems apparently the I/o error I was getting was due to corruption in my file systems or something like that.
