i have had a look around on the net and there are programs that do this "flash" thing to fix a bricked psp, however it requires you to enter into some sort os recovery menu. my questions is, what do you do if you can actually turn it on?

the psp currently in my possession will only light up the power light fore a few seconds, is there any way to use this method or any other cheap method.

The recovery menu you speak of is only acessible to those with custom firmwares, no custom firmware = your psp is bricked

Return it to Sony, if its under warrenty they will replace it for free, if not then its £50 or whatever your local currency is.

Or if your more shady minded, trade it in at a game store :P
