I've been using Nero Express v. 5.5.10.14 (came with burner) to try make a DVD-Video (files compressed with DVD2One). However, it always hangs at 0%
My comp: Dell Inspiron 4150
OS: Windows XP Home
The Pioneer 105 is connected via USB 2.0
DVDs: DVD Pro
I have disabled IMAPI and uninstalled Roxio. I'm only a newbie, but I was thinking Roxio may have some leftover components causing the Nero problems or maybe I need an ASPI layer (although I read somewhere that Nero installs its own ASPI?).
The Pioneer is able to burn CDs with Nero fine.
I was able to make Data DVDs using Roxio, but they would not play on my stand alone (which usually plays DVD-R's). I read Nero has better DVD compatibility, but have been unable to burn anything!!
Thanks for the help!!

You can download an ASPI adaptec program from the afterdawn software section. Try upgrading your Nero to version 5.5.10.35, this will be free for you with your version!

I have the same burner and it does the same thing, i asked a question on it and i was told it has some sort of disc validation system or something strange like that and that it was probably hanging on that. The newest version of Nero fixed it for me!

Don't forget that Data DVD's are DVD ROM and will not play on stand alone players. They are meant for data backup and will only play on your PC.

First off, Sorry about the double post!
Update: I upgraded my firmware, upgraded my Nero, and downloaded ASPI 4.7. All this and I made another coaster with Nero (again using the DVDPro's).
So I gave up on Nero and tried DVD X Copy XPress. I was able to make one successful DVD using an Accu DVD-R. However, the burner will not recognize any other of the Accu DVD-R's or the DVD-Pro's. Also, my comp changed my drive name from E to F. Is this just a DVD-R compatibility issue or is there something wrong with my comp/burner??
Thanks again!!

Hi again,
Both DVD Xpress and Nero were working for me for about a week or 2, and now only DVD Xpress works for me. I just DLed the lastest upgrade for Nero, but it still hangs on me (exactly at the 1:24 mark)
Anyone have any ideas on why Nero works only sometimes for me (CD burning is fine)??
I'm trying to burn movies thru DVD-Video files, BTW.
The only thing I've done to my comp is plug/unplugged it a few times (it's a notebook).
Thanks!!

Herbsman,
I have it hooked up externally via USB 2.0. I'm using a USB 2.0 card with my notebook. It's strange: One day it started working, then another day, I unplugged my comp to use it somewhere else, replugged and couldn't get Nero to burn any more. It always hangs on the Lead In.
thanks

The last time I spoke to someone with an external burner that was having problems. After my suggestion of perhaps looking at hooking up via firewire...all worked fine

The reason I suggested it is because I had read up on Digital Camcorder transfer to HDD
(It has some relevance - lol )
