Help installing another os on the same pc but different drive

Can anyone tell me whether it is all right for me to install another os on the same pc. My problem is that i plan to migrate to the new os but i want to keep the old os as a backup in case the new one fail. Here is an image of the disk drive in partiton magic.

Basically my os is windows xp home 2002 sp1 and it is on local disk C: and i am trying to install windows xp pro sp2 on to new os e: can anyone tell me whether there is a problem with this setup. After i install xp pro do i automatically start in pro or home? How do i switch between the two os.
