I rip movies as iso backup files but I can't burn them. I use DVDDecrypter, IMG Burn and Nero and sometimes Nero works but most often it doesn't giving me the message- "power calibration error." Can the drive be bad? Nero also says - "waiting for DVD F drive" and it never happens. Do you think the drive is going?? Thanks

Hi wjs1012
Could be a few things that cause the power calibration error.
Let's start with the easy stuff 1st.

°What's the make & model of the drive?
°Is the firmware up to date?
You can check this with Decrypter. Go to tools>drive>check for firmware update. It will also list your firmware version in a pop up.
°What media are you using and rated speed? Like Sony +R 8x.

I don't know the model and make of the drive. How can I find out? Also, went to DVD Decrypter and under tools, drive, is not an option that I can access. I believe my firmware is up to date though. I am using Imation Playo and Mazell media. Thanks

Imation, Playo and Maxell media has all worked in the past. Do you think the drive could be bad? I burn alot. Could you overuse the drive??

Ok for the make and model - in Decrypter when your in iso read mode do you see the drive that you write to listed under 'source'? The make and model should be listed.

Or go to 'my computer'. You should see you drive listed there. Right click on it than go to the hardware tab - the make and model should be listed under 'all disc drives'.

Imation and Playo ain't the best. Maxell if made in Japan are good.

Hmmm overuse - well at some point all drives will go - just depends. I have 2 that are over 2 years old that get very heavy use and are still good.
You might also have a bad/loose or shared power connection to the drive that could be causing a problem.
So that's another thing to check - change the power connection.
