Hey,

I have my XBOX 360 connected to XBOX live just fine right now. I have a Linksys and a Negear router that I am trying to connect together so I can have 2 Xbox?s connected to the internet, and so I don?t have to run to 250 foot cables to the other side of the house.

So here?s my connection right now

Cable Modem_______Linksys WGR45G V5 router__250 foot Ethernet cable___XBOX 360

Here?s what I want to have

Cable Modem___Liksys router__250? Ethernet cable___Netgear WGR614 wireless router___ to 2 XBOX 360s

How do I config both the routers to work with each other.

Thanks,
~Domreis

One of the routers youll want to be the main router id use the Linksys WGR45G V5 router the secod router youll want to just turn into a switch or access point so it will be pulling a ip address from the main router so disable dhcp on the second make sure its set on the main router.
And you must have some knowledge of the tcp/ip settings in network connections and your routers configuration to set it up.

I am useing the Linksys a the First/Main(Best wifi singnal) and the netgear as the secondary.

I have disabeled the DHCP sever on the netgear. What elese should I do. I talked to some guy at my School and he said I should also disable the Network adress translation, but I dont know how to do that; do you?

And thatnks for the reply and the help.

After you disabled DHCP you need to set the ip address on the router to the same subnet as the main router if its like 192.168.1.1 on the main, set the other router to 192.168.1.2 for example, so its part of the same network. Also check and see if the router has an access point mode to switch to some wireless routers do.

I work in the IT field, so I'll explain this quickly for you. To use the Netgear as a switch, either save yourself $50, return the netgear router and buy a switch, or do this:

First, configure the netgear router:
You know how to access the setup for the netgear, so do the following:
You need to give the router an IP in the same range you're using. So, if the linksys hands out an address like 192.168.1.1, give the netgear an address like 192.168.1.234 - do something with bigger numbers at the end so there's no chance of the linksys handing out the same IP you gave the netgear. Turn off DHCP. If you have wireless, setup the wireless on the netgear with all the same settings as the linksys, but put it on a different channel. This way, you'll have a larger range for the wifi in your house. Turn off the firewall in the netgear.
Set the WAN IP to something different, this is usually under basic settings - just don't give it a 192.168.1.*** address.
Finally, send the 250ft ethernet from the linksys to the netgear. Plug the cable into one of the LAN ports on both routers - do not plug it into the WAN port on the netgear. This way, any computer connecting to the wireless or the lan ports on the router will pull their IP info directly from the linksys, not the netgear.

The only advantage you have with doing this is that you can have another wireless access point and a switch in the same place. I'd suggest returning the netgear if you can and buying a switch from newegg for cheap $$ and saving the $$ ...

Have fun!

Yea the netgear is 4 month old. My dad one it from office max, in some contest. Will I be able to use all of the 3 open LAN ports on the 360.

Will I still be able to System link my 2 360's when the router is configed as a switch.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

Thank you so much. I did what you said, and I have gotten farther than I have ever gotten.
I went to "Test XBOX LIVE Connection"
And every thing worked/ was comfirmed

gade121 : you have an Linksys usb adaptor? Do you also have a access point ? It says on Micro$oft$ website you can use any wireless adaptor I imagine you just plug it in to the xbox and setup the connection. But youve probably tried that.If so what was the error.

Ive never set up a wireless adaptor on a 360 but im curious is there a wep key you have to enter in the 360 settings? Also could there be settings in your router thats blocking the 360 from a connection like MAC filtering you might wanna check those things hopefully that will work.

I had that problem, only My USB was a Belikan Range Max.

I bought a 250' Ethernet cable and ran it through my air duck.

If you know how your air ducks run you can try to run an Ethernet cable from your router to your 360. You can get a 100' cable from Lowes for $20. If you can't get the cable to monover around the air ducks you can always tuck it under the carpet.

I'm just trying to save you $80 so you don?t have to go buy an access point or the official 360 USB thing.

yea, but i had to install a driver for it to work on windows, i know there shouldnt be a driver to be installed for my linksys but how else would required wireless adapters use a driver for the 360.. do u think i should enter the network settings manually

I thought most if not all usb devices are plug n play so you wouldnt need the driver, i know you cant install a driver on the 360.

also "is there a wep key you have to enter in the 360 settings? Also could there be settings in your router thats blocking the 360 from a connection like MAC filtering you might wanna check those things hopefully that will work."
