I've tried to burn the CD Kiss Me Kate on two different computers using two different original CDs. I've tried using Roxio CD & DVD Creator 6 and Nero 7. Both cache but will not complete the burn. The errors I get using Memorex CDs with Roxio are E: NEC DVD+RW 2100AD ("Power calibration area error". [03/73/03]); E: NEC DVD+RW 2100AD ("Invalid field in CDB". [05/24/00]). When I use Nexxtech CDs the errors are E: NEC DVD+RW 2100AD ("Write error". [03/0c/00]); E: NEC DVD+RW 2100AD ("Invalid field in CDB". [05/24/00]). I tried the burns at 32X, 16X and 4X with the same results. The burn quits at the third track using Nero 7. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

triviaace,
Welcome to the forum. If you put CD instead of DVD then the blank media you are using is extremly low grade and would cause this error "Power calibration area error". If you are trying to do a DivX movie post the Nero log of the last attempt in this thread. If this is a DVD you are using then use better blank media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

Cinch,
Yes you can do a DVD to CD as that was the format we used years ago but it is still used by some.

You don't get it. The drive I use to burn CDs and DVDs is an NEC drive called "NEC DVD+RW 2100AD". I provided the error codes exactly as they showed up on my monitor. When I burn CDs it's CD to CD-R; with DVDs it's DVD to DVD+R.

"Power calibration area error" is caused by the burner not being able to calibrate itself to the blank media. Better media might help or a firmware update also might help.

"Invalid Field in CDB". This means the copy process stopped because the writer ran out of data (connection lost to the pc) or the file you want to copy might contain corrupt data. Check to make sure DMA in on

I don't get a calibration error when I try to burn on my Compaq 9000. What happens is Roxio locks up on caching track 9 and locks up the computer. I can't open the drives nor can I shut the computer down from Start. I have to shut it off manually. By the way, what do you mean by DMA?

triviaace,
You probably do not get the error as that burner likes the low grade blank media. I would completely remove Roxio from the computer if it is doing that.

DMA= Direct Memory Access

To Carmike: I can't see how Roxio is my problem since all other CDs burn perfectly. I can only guess that it is the CD and since it is a Sony CD there might be some hidden protection imbedded therein.

The problem could be in the DLA writing Packets that are embedded in Nero and Roxio. Uninstall INCD( Nero) and the DLA writing Packet that is in Roxio and it should then be OK.

If you like d/l the 21 free trial offer from Slysoft for AnyDVD as that is supposed to get around the CD encryptions. I just have never had to use it for my CD's. The software is supposed to remove the digital audio protection that could be on the CD

I bought the latest version of AnyDVD and installed it. It seems to work fine. I will uninstall Nero and see if there is any difference. Finally, would it help if I removed my NEC 2100AD DVD drive from my Dell 8300 and installed a Sony DRU 820A in its place? I don't get the power calibration error when burning on my Compaq 9000.

triviaace ,
Make your you go to Nero's site and use the Nero Cleantools to remove any remnant of Nero after you uninstall it. You can switch the burners

I removed Nero 7 Ultra and then used cleantools followed by Registry Mechanic to remove all traces of Nero. I tried burning with a Memorex disc but encountered errors immediately. I then switched to Nexxtech discs and burned at 8.0X (1.4MB/s). The burn stopped writing at 55% of track 17 of 19. The error was an invalid field in CDB, this after it stopped copying and froze. I then tried the burn at 4.0X (706.0KB/s) with a Nexxtech disc. This time all 19 tracks were written and an write error appeared during the closing of the disc. Even though there was an error, the disc appears to play quite well on all 19 tracks. I can only surmise that the Memorex discs and my NEC burner are incompatible and that Nero could have caused additional problems. There also could have been a problem with the original disc. I'll have to wait and sort it all out. Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.
