Hi all,

I have a question, I am new to DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter etc. I am backing up some dvds and first I was using Sony DVD-R, DVD Shrink, tried many different options like just creating ISO with shrink and than manyaly burning it to DVD using Nero 7 and it always failed with those sony dvds. I tried the ption of creating iso with shrink and then burning with decrypter but it always failed with sony dvds... I was getting some "transcending failed" messages... and it always failed in burning at aproximately the same stage.

Than I got FUJIFILM DVD+RW and had a sucess with three dvds. After I got sucess with the first one I tried doing the exact same process again with SONY dvd but again failed like before.

The process I used with FUJI is create ISO with DVD Shrink and than open up DVD Decrypter and burn that ISO on a DVD. With FUJIFILM DVD it works but with sony no?

Is that possible, that for some dvd brands it works for some not? Is my problem caused soley during the burning stage of the whole process? I mean could my problem be caused by SHRINK creating bad ISO or something like that?

Thanks for all you help!

Some burners are very funny about the media they like. They definately like some brands better than others.

Just curious.........why did you manually burn with Nero, after Shrink did it's thing? There is an option in Shrink's preferences, for choosing to automatically use Nero to burn. That may work better. See here:

When using Sony discs, try to get the ones that are made in Japan. It will say on the package "Made in Japan".
Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.

I tried every single option I could, manyaly buring, automaticly burning through SHRINK with both Nero and DECRYPTER and all other posible options but every time SONY disc failed and of the three tries with FUJIFILM I had three sucesses, I guess can;t be really a coincidence...

My burner is NEC DVD +-RW ND-3530A, any thoughts on it. Anyone has the same and knows wich media works for sure?

Should I go and by a 10 pack Verbatim to check if that brand would work for me? I can;t really find these fuji's anymore...

Thanks!

No experience with an NEC burner, so I can't really comment on it. I've seen here, that some folks like them. I use a LiteOn burner, which I like a lot.

Try some Verbatim discs. They are a quality disc. You can probably find FujiFilm discs at Best Buy. Just make sure you get the ones made in Japan. It will say that on the package.
Good luck!

Check and make sure the firmware on the burner is current. Here is the latest for your drive.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2110

You can use DVD Decrypter to do this just open the program go to the Tools tab, drive and then capabilities it will show which version you have.

Hi all, thanks for your help... I am getting a feeling that blank media is my problem... actually my burner won;t burn these Sony DVD that I have but will burn FUJIFILM + RW that I also have.

Here is the LOG
Please tell me what you think. It means almost nothing to me, I'm new to this. Do you think I would be safe to buy some Verbatims +R

This is burning too close too the edge, try changing output size in shrink.
your firmware is up to date.

U could try using a better version of Nero without all the bugs
try this
uninstall Nero (Write down your serial #)
Then run this clean tool
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

Then install this version to see if it helps

Thanks 300bowler...

Now does the fack that I get a fail with like 4 or 5 different burning softwares exclude the possibility that it might be up to the buggy Nero?

What exactly does burning too close to the edge mean, now you have to know that I am an amateur... I get a fail after app 15% so it doesn;t even come close to the outer edge?

Thanks for all your help.

Here is your error, more than likely it is media related.

Quote:
7:01:10 PM #22 CDR -1093 File Writer.cpp, Line 302
No seek complete
E: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A
Quote:
18. Why do I get a 'No seek complete' error message?

This error can be caused by the following:

Old firmware on the recorder - Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder. An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures. Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder?s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.
For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorder?s firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...
To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero Info Tool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.
For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Ahead Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
Once Nero Info Tool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.
Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at one?s own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."
Poor media - Try more than one brand of media. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc.
Poor IDE cable or incorrect cable - For higher end recorders these days if you use the 40pin cable you can have all sorts of unusual symptoms. It would be best to use an ATA-133 80 wire cable.
Driver conflicts - If you have or had another CD recording software installed on your system, its drivers could be conflicting with our software. This is rare for this symptom, but it does occur. Uninstall any other recording software and make sure all its drivers have been removed with it. Then reinstall Nero and make sure to use the latest version we have posted on our website.
Defective recorder - The optical head on your recorder may need cleaning or servicing. Or it's possible the circuit board on your recorder has an open coil or blown diode or resistor. Any of these could cause the error. Only solution would be to send the drive in for service to the recorder manufacturer.

I knew you don't burn with that drive, because it's a dvd rom drive. But it still needs to be in DMA Mode, to be assured of getting good reads from original discs. The log clearly shows, that it's not in DMA mode. :o)

JVC,

How do I set it up to use DMA? As I said , I followed your instructions and it is set to use DMA if avaliable!?

By the way, I got some fuji media -R and first disc got the same error like I got with sony, but then I turned the speed to 8x instead of MAX and I got sucess with that DVD... I'll see now how others will do.

Thanks

What is the rated speed of your new fuji media and sony media? If they are 16x, try some good quality 8x rated media. Although your firmware is current, NEC may not have any firmware for your drive model compatable with all 16x media. If this is the case, about the only solution to burn 16x rated media would be to replace the drive with a newer model with better firmware support. You could also call or email NEC about some new f/w for your drive.

I will try some 8x media next time and see how it behaves than.

In the mean time, you all probably can explain to me one other thing...

In DVDSHRINK, when I analyse the movie and than have the option to choose what to rip and what not to rip, in AUDIO what are all those "2-chanel" 5.1" chanel etc... Am I safe leaving just all 5.1 channel audio and turning off all the others? Is it basicaly the same audio just in different format, if yes 5.1 is the best and the one I should have, other's are not important!? Or will I be left with half mute DVD in the end if I turn any audio off?

Thanks for all your help guys.

I don't know what to tell you about the DMA, other than what I said above. Because the log shows the dvd ROM drive, with DMA off.

You can try deleting it through the device manager, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install it for you.

If you choose only the 5.1 audio, you must.......

JVC,

The 5.1 will work fine even if he doesn't have it going through a 5.1 reciever. It will be downmuxed into 2 channel stereo for his tv or stereo reciever. Now in order to have 5.1 dolby sound through a 5.1 reciever the 5.1 must be checked. On most discs the 5.1 channel is the main channel for the movie and the 2 channel is only for extras and directors commentary. If you save movie only then 5.1 is all you need to check unless you want the track with the directors commentary in the background.

Ok, thanks Mort81.....
I didn't realize it would automatically down mix it. I know that DTS doesn't down mix, and I guess I was taking it for granted that DD didn't either. Since I have a good 5.1 system in the living room and on my computer, I never really gave it much thought, about 2 channel. I don't listen to anything in 2 channel anymore........... :o)

Yep, I only select 5.1 and deselect any 2 channel audio. You can save a lot of space that way. Only time i use 2 channel is when thats the only option.
Ive had mixed success with Sony D-21 media. Verbs and Tys burn like the sun.
