i just messed up one of my dl dvd's by burning my game image using a sony dvd rom drive...is there a way to use that dl dvd to change or create its bitsetting to work on my xtreme firmware in any way possible on my sony dvd drive, or another dvd drive that does support book type?, or is that disc of no use now?

If you're running the samsung xtreme, just upgrade to the latest version, 3.2 or 3.3, and you won't have to worry about bitsetting.

I have a hitachi v59 and i just applied the media patch. That way i dont need bitsetting or booktype. Go with the new Birdy flasher.

I wasn't sure it the new Hitachi firmware took care of the bitsetting problem, so I didn't want to take a chance and mess him up. Glad you spoke up. Every single flash I've done so far has been a Samsung. Everyone around here (my area) that knows about the mod is still stuck on the "I HAVE to have the Samsung 360" so that's all I've been getting to mod. 8)

Should I post a new topic to spread the word? I almost threw away some backups. Before I read about the mediacheck patch and tried it. I took a risk because it was said that it didnt work on v59. But i am enjoying backups as i type. And im burning with an Hp DVD writer with dl capabilities. and CCD. on Verbatim

The two wire trick is easy. You have to let that fear go.(If that is the case) Follow the directions in the guide. all you need is two pieces of wire and maybe some tape. when you have them in the right holes. Pinch the two wires together and press the power button on the 360. as soon as the light comes on let go of the wires and the green light should blink and make sure they dont touch anymore until you flashed your drive. h++p://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/386475

gade121,
You say you payed someone to apply the patch for you. Could you explain the method he used? If he ran a flasher. You can probably power up the 360 with the tray open to boot into mode b. If he applied a chip, I know nothing about that.

Once you get it into mode b you should restore your drive to its original firmware and then flash it with the birdy flasher that includes the mediacheck patch.

I can't promise you anything. But if you backed up Oblivion correctly it should work. And no i will not guide you step by step. There is already a guide posted with step by step instructions. I suggest you find the latest one and follow it word for word. And if you have problems with the terminology i suggest that you use the forum search. I successfully flashed my drive by using the latest guide and searching through the forums w/o asking questions. Not bragging, just saying that it is possible. If you really put effort in researching the whole process it will be very easy. Use your resources. I will give you the link to the guide though.

I have the hitachi v59. I burn w/ an hp dvd writer 740b. My backups burned with my burner are readable because i applied the birdy flasher w/ mediacheck patch. They didnt work when i used the garyopa7in1.

when i got my drive flashed, i tried it on my computer moments later not even using the slax cd tho...somehow it just went into mode b when i opened the tray. does this mean that i have that garyopa thing
and if thats the problem, how should i get rid of it

Most flashers have a mode b trick. Do some research on it. And in order for you to flash your drive with the Birdy flasher. you need to flash your drive back to its original firmware first. So you may need to go ask the guy that you paid to do that for you. And ask him alot of other questions that you want answered. Since he flashed it first he will surely know what he flashed it with.

im sure he used the xtreme firmware 1.3, because it said so on the 2.2 birdy flasher (actually it said patched with xtreme firmware 1.2-1.3). So when i tried flashing it myself, i used birdy flasher 2.0 to apply the 1.2 xtreme firmware (only becuase on the 2.2 it wouldnt let me reverse the patch for some reason as it wouldnt let me hit the go button)then applied the 1.3 to my firmware with the geremia tweak (i thought that was the mediacheck patch)and it didnt work with my backup disc that i used to burn with my sony drive, and i did everything right. So my best option is to put back the original firmware back and apply the 1.3 patch again right?
i found out from the guy and he used the garyopa 7 in 1 i beleive. can i get back to my original firmware without that garyopa patch on there and start from scratch
