Hi there can anyone help, trying to make a back up copy using DVD Shrink of Stealth. File is too large and although have compression on auto and have tried to reauthorise to backup movie only and also tried excluding foreign audio tracks etc to reduce size of file but to no success. Compression is at 99.2% and the main movie alone without any other features is 4646MB how is this to be fitted into a disk with availability of 4464MB. Any suggestions. Also have DVD Decrypter could this be used in any way to enable a successful backup to disc.

kat123, Welcome to AD:)

This question has been asked before. Did you do a search? I can tell you step by step how to do it, however, diferent members have diferent oppinions. Most members, including myself love AnyDVD. You can get a 20 day trial of it at slysoft.com.

But for now refer to this link to help you. I do not use this method, however it is a free way to get it done. Thanks JaguarGod!

Thx for your reply, sorry for my naivety but I have had a brief look at AnyDVD, I have already purchased uptodate DVD Region & CSS Free and have the last versions available of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and so from what I briefly saw this programme duplicates the many functions of all those programmes, how will this programme assist in this case as I have successfully backed up other problem dvd's before using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, how is AnyDVD different. Many thx

Hi kat123,

Instead of using the auto settings have you tried to set the target output to 4300mb? Also unless you need additional languages removing the spanish and french (languages and subtitles) should get you to 4300mb or less.

As far as AnyDVD is concerned it is a driver that runs in the background and prevents the copy protection on retail dvds you own from being seen. Basically it fools your pc into thinking the protection is not there (also removes region code) and therefore you can backup your dvd to your hard drive. You will see a little red foxhead when you put your store bought dvd into your drive..this simply means it recognizes the dvd and is making sure the copy protection does not prevent you from copying the dvd files to your hard drive. AnyDVD also comes with its ripper to include fixvts (removes invalid/ blank/ dummy files usually associated with copy protection on the dvd). Sony ARcoSS, macrovision and puppetlock are the 2 most common copy deterent mechanisms used by media companies today to prevent 'unauthorized' copies of their dvd releases from being pirated. AnyDVD can bypass all those. Please note I kept it simple and hope you got the general understanding of what AnyDVD does.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

Hi Matt72

I only know the basic settings for DVDShrink how would I alter the output settings. I have looked at the Preferences which is currently set at DVD Target size DVD-5, how does making this smaller fit a larger file onto the disk which it is already saying is too small. And yes have tried removing all unnecessary audio and subtitle files to reduce the file size but it doesnt seem to help.

Thx Kat123

There is also another great program that takes a little time to get use to. It is called VobBlanker, and you can download it from this site. Alcohol wrote a basic guide to follow that gives you an idea of how it works. It is great for removing trailers, Sony logo, FBI warnings, and blank cells that the DVD may have. By Blanking these items it reduces the amount that the DVD needs to shrink. If you remove the unwanted material and are able to shrink the DVD at around 70% then you are good to go.

Download the file here:

Alcohols guide: (Thanks Alcohol!)

Now remember that I said that it takes a little getting use to. With the use of AnyDVD, DVD Decrypter (with the setting set accordingly!), VobBlanker, and Nero you should be able to burn any movie. I am not at home right now but I can send you directions in how to set up DVD Decrypter, and Shrink so that all of your DVD's burn without a problem. Let me know if you would like this information.

Thx everyone for your help and advice, have got DVD Fab Decrypter and used that first and then used shrink - this time shrink made the file into a much small size to backup to disk - success at last! It seems using another system to decrypt helped shrink to revalue the size of the movie. Haven't had problems backing up other known problems dvds ie. Alien Vs Pred, Resident Evil Apocalyse etc without probs before using either DVD Shrink on it's own or inconjunction with DVD Decrypter, plus I have up-to-date version of DVD Region & CSS Free too so havent had too much trouble with the decryption side of things. I now have added DVD Fab Decrypter and have downloaded VobBlanker as suggested and it would be great if you could give me details on how to adjust settings so at least in future I know what else to try if my current system fails to back up for me. Many thanks Kat123

Kat123-
To set the DVD Decrypter go to Tools -> Settings and a box will open with several tabs.

Tab General
Make sure the following items are checked:
1)Remove macrovision Protection
2)Check for Structure Protection
3)Hide Pack Header Warning

Removal method: Aggressive

Under the category other make sure all check boxes are checked.

Tab I/O
I have mine set to Elby CDIO-Elaborate Bytes. This is the setting I prefer, however, some like the setting SPTI-Microsoft

Tab CSS
Under CSS Cracking Method select Brute Force -> I/O Key Exchange

Under On Failure use key from another file: select yes

DVD Shrink Information
Select Edit -> Preferences and a box with tables will open

Tab Preferences
Select target size to be custom and type 4360 in the MB box. This setting is for burning to DVD-5 but not all the way to the edge of the disk. As long as you are using high quality DVD?s you should not have a problem.

Tab User Preferences
You can set the sound quality here. I have mine set to 5.1 Channel Surround Sound

Tab Output Files
Check the following items
1)Remove macrovision Protection
2)Remove P-UOPs
3)Remove Layer Break
4)Split VOB files into 1GB size chunks

VobBlanker
Using this program is strictly up to you. I like it for removing unwanted material from the DVD such as blank cells, FBI Warnings, Previews, Rating Symbols, etc. By removing these items I can shrink the movie and still have quality in my compression.

Now that everything is set accordingly you will find that as long as you have AnyDVD running that DVD Decrypter will work for you better than DVDFab Decrypter. Now running DVD Decrypter should only take 10 to 20 min. I hope the following settings help you.

kat123 i use the programs that you are speaking of dvd region + cs free and shrink, i had no problems at all backing up this movie, you have to reauther the movie to get it small enough, also take out all of the audio except the 5.1 or the AC3, so you must be doing something wrong that you can't get it to backup, good luck bappy burning have a nice day, also dvd and region + css free do not play good togeather so use one or the other, my self i would keep the dvd region + css free.
