xbox live problem?

hey i have a question for who ever can help me. I resently bought an xbox live account and i had a softmoded xbox and i did a c: restore but when i go to make the account i get to the registration code and i put it in and it says comunication error please try agian later is this from my xbox once being moded?
oh and the card I got says xbox 360 on it could that be the problem?

Is your Xbox connected to the Internet properly? That's the only reason you should get a communication error.

Sorry, I have no idea then. I would think it'd give you a message other than "communication error" if it was the card. Something like "invalid code" would make more sense.
