Okay, I have just upgraded my computer, wiped the HDD and reinstalled WinXP. Now I'm having problems connecting to the internet. My LAN is set up like this:

BROADBAND CONNECTION ---> FAMILY PC ---> ROUTER ---> MY PC

Nothing has changed apart from my PC. When I try to use Internet Explorer (or Firefox) nearly all web-sites will not load. I just get the "Opening page http://www.-----.com" message in the status bar and nothing happens. I also can't update my anti-virus software.

This is the strange part; Google works fine. I can do NEW searches and receive results. All other web-sites I have tried will not work. Both computer use WinXP. Please help!

This confuses me.

BROADBAND CONNECTION ---> FAMILY PC ---> ROUTER ---> MY PC

Why not broaband connection to router to both pcs???

Sounds like you are having DNS issues. Whats your DNS server on the fam PC? What is it on your PC? Looks like you cant resolve an IP. What happens when you ping purple.com? What about when you ping google.com?

@-DoubleDwn-

Pinging a site is an excellent idea but what if -cheezy102- has no idea how to ping google.com or purple.com?

give an example with this like, START/CMD/Ping www.google.com and see if there is a reply? just an example.

Ping results all come back 0% loss so I can't understand why only google will load.

I didn't set the network up so I don't know why it is set up like it is, but there is nothing wrong with the network; I can access shared hard drives on the other computer fine.

And the fact that I can access google gives the impression that the internet should be fully working too!

Also DNS setting have been checked, although it can't be them if pings come back 0% loss.

I was thinking it could be the "LAN Settings" in the "Connections" tab of "Internet Options". If I were to set these up manually (not automatically), what would they be?
