I have on questions concerning tv shows and movies. There are alot of choices in height,depth,fps,ect..What are the best features to key on when selecting files.I know how to use the SEARCH button in LM and Google, but I still need some direction.I can find high quality movies on a AVI format, but tv series tend to be more diverse in quality(height, depth, fps,AVI or mpg)?

Just a Thought.......

There are some nice 32" HD lcd/monitor tv's from Acer and Sony in the 750 range. The tv/monitor is nice feature to hook your pc to the t.v.

The pc -vga-connection will give you 1380 by 786 in resolution using lcd hd tv as a monitor.

There are alo dvd players that can read AVI.file formats.S

The higher the resolution, the higher the quality. That's if it isn't just blown up and it has a suitably high enough bitrate. Could be say a higher res dsr release and a lower pdtv rip. The pdtv release should be better. As for fps. Just means a PAL or an NTSC source. Depth? Most of sources and output formats use YV12, so 12bit. If you have say an XviD AVI that says 24bit, then that generally just means that the encoder didn't know what they were doing and converted to RGB24 before encoding. The actual file is still YV12 since that is all MPEG-4 Part 2 supports.

There are players that support avi's. But they won't play just any AVI. There are limits. They basically only support MPEG-4 Part 2 and MS MPEG-4 V3 based codecs. There are also limits on resolutions, encoder features (GMC, qpel, etc.).

the ultimate player should be xbox, or 360, or maybe htpc...
i did consider a standalone player a few years back, didn't get one though.
right now, it would be a no, not till the new generation HD stuff comes out, cause all i use now is h264
