Problem Burning Atlantis Lucky Number Slevin

Forgive the lack of knowledge, but I recently bought Clone DVD/AnyDVD and had no problems, however w/Lucky Number Slevin and Atlantis there are "pauses" or delays in the movie while viewing. I have the most recent release of both programs and double checked for updates.
If it matters, computer is a 2.8 GHz P4 w/1GB of RAM and idles w/about 2% resource use and burning on a Plextor 760A 18x DL DVD Burner. While burning I do not open any programs as well.
Has anyone else had the same trouble?

Although I haven't done this title, I have done others that had play back problems as you describe, pause, then race forward with voices out of sync. Strange,because it was only certain titles.
When I redid from the original, at a reduced speed, the problem was resolved. You have an 18X burner, wow it must fly, but fast is not always best. General rule of thumb, burn at half the rated speed.....16X media/burn at 8X.

What media did you burn on to?
[hold breath, hope it's not CMC-MAGs}
Like MackDL said, burn at 1/2 the rated speed and you'll be fine, use the good stuff as well, TY, Verbatim, Ritek etc.

Funny thing was the playback problem was not on my old, year 2000 Toshiba, which I would expect to have problems, but on two newer "play all formats" players. Go figure.

I used TDK DVD+R 16x (4.7GB), no coasters so far, with that exception. I'll reduce speed on the next burn to prevent coasters and retry.

Well.....I used to buy TDK 4X media from Costco (buy 1/get 1 free deal). They coded as RicohJpnR01, however one I opened was CMCMag YUCK! They went back. There was a slight difference in the packaging, the Ricoh's didn't have a spacer. After personally having bad luck with CMCMag and finding out that TDK outsourced to them, I now bypass TDK media. This is the consensus of many at AD. We avoid media we know may be CMCMag.
You can use the following to identify your media:
DvdIdentifier/ or DvdInfoPro and VSOInspector as in cougar_ii's post.

Myvote for cheap media, when on sale fpr $19.99 for 100, Office Depot 16X DVD disks, the +R will code out as Ritek P16, consistant 95%+ qua;ity scores, flawless playback. Personally I've always had good Luck with the Ritek brand, some however have had less than good luck.

I didn't even know there was much of a difference between DVD companies, I assumed an old name like TDK would be a quality product, their tapes used to be...oh well, try again next time when a sale hits I suppose.

Thanks BlivetNC, I'm going to order some Taiyo Yuden DVDs for my PLEXTOR 760A DVD burner, I think I'll have better luck. One question, why doesn't Taiyo Yuden make DVD+R as well or does it matter?

Good news....Plextors bitset/booktype! Don't have a Plextor, but believe it MAY booktype +r media automatically or you have to use PlexTools. Do a search. You will have less compatibility issues with different dvd players when you change the booktype. This is why I have always changed the booktype of + media, been doing it for almost 2 1/2 years. I want my backups to work in all my family's dvd players.

Have a Plextor 708A and it has capability to set DVD+R to DVD-ROM type. DVDD and other programs (Imgburn?) can set this but if Plextools is used it will retain the setting until changed by Plextools.
From a review by CDrinfo ( http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/...ArticleId=16587 ) this drive will support bitsetting as follows,
" The booktype setting is a feature widely supported by almost all recent drives, as it enables the change of the booktype on specific media (DVD+R,+RW,+RDL to DVD-ROM), to achieve maximum compatibility with stand alone players (mostly outdated ones). This can be achieved prior to burning the inserted media or during the burn process (at the beginning with Nero or another burning software).
Unfortunately, the Plextor 760A does not fully support this feature for all media. It can only change the booktype for DVD+R DL and DVD+R media to DVD-ROM, DVD+RW is not supported and by default, the book type is DVD-ROM. The booktype cannot be changed with Nero CDSpeed, you will have to use Plextools in order to change the booktype."
Actually don't know why you would change DVD+RW to DVD-ROM, wouldn't that disable the rewritable capability?

My LiteOn 451s changes +RW's to dvd-rom. I am able to erase and use the media over again. My LG 4163 is like the Plextor, doesn't support +RW. My main dvd player will not play any + media unless booktyped, so being able to booktype has been a real bonus to me.
What I did find interesting was LiteOns booktype utility can change the booktype of RW's AFTER recording. Learn something everyday! I know you couldn't do that with +R's, just assumed the same for +RW's.

Thanks for the info, I guess that they wouldn't be RWs unless you could rewrite them. I learn something new from these forums everyday!
