I have prepared a DVD movie (using both DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink) and it is ready to be burned. The problem is that when I put the blank DVD+R disc in the drive to burn the movie, the burn button is unavailable as if there were no disc in the drive at all. Below the burn/write button it reads: "Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)". Am I using the wrong type of blank DVD? Can I use DVD+R at all? Or do I have to buy a DVD-R?

What type od burner to you have? Chances are, you are using the wrong media. Try using a DVD-R & see what happens. Remember to use high quality media.

The brand of DVD+R I am using is Maxell, Highgrade, Hardcoat Protection, 4.7GB, up to Max. 8x.

The burner I am using is on a Gateway Computer. It is a DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:).

Hi aljohns
The Maxells you are using can be made by some good manufacturers.
What's the make and model?
You can just right click on the drive in 'my computer' & go to properties>hardware tab for that info (running xp).

The make and model of my DVD/CD-RW Drive (D:) is:
LITE-ON COMBO LTC-48161H.

Is this the correct information you need to help me? Let me know if you need any more information. Thanks.

Not sure, but I think your drive is a CD Writer + DVD Reader meaning it cannot write to DVDs only CDs. If this is the case, you will need to purchase a DVDRW drive. They are around $30-$35.

That is a good point, that my DVD/CD-RW may not be able to burn DVD's. That is definitely something I will look into. However, I have found something that may be the problem and I need your help with.
After spending hours learning about DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, and following a couple guides on how to burn a DVD, I finally have the movie ready to burn. However, before I was successful at this I tried copying the movie to the hard drive several different ways. For one of these attempts, I downloaded Image Tool as well as Daemon Tools, which, as I understand it, gives me a virtual E: drive.
Earlier this afternoon I needed to back up some of my professional work onto a blank CD-RW. The folder for the D: drive that shows the contents of the cd that ALWAYS opens up whenever I insert a cd (or DVD movie), did not open on its own. I did not even have the option to "open the file using...program". So I opened it up using My Computer to see if I had to erase any old files on the cd before I burned new information onto it, and I did not even have the option to write OR delete anything. So then I just right clicked on the icon for the D: drive itself to see the properties of the drive, and it said it was completely full. If this means that the cd in the drive is full, that would be impossible b/c it is not. It may very likely be empty.
This brings me to the very problem, and reason, for which I joined this forum. My D: drive is not only reading the blank DVD disc I wanted to burn the movie onto when it was ready to be burned, but it is also not reading any CD-RW that I put into the drive as well.
Does this mean that I should get rid of the virtual E: drive by uninstalling Daemon Tools?
Also, I remember than on DVD Decrypter you have the option to erase the drive. Do I have to erase the D: drive, the E: drive, or both? Would this be the reason for which DVD Decrypter told me that the blank DVD I had inserted into the drive was: "Device Not Ready (Medium Not Present)"???

Hi aljohns
Yep that's the info needed.
But JaguarGod is right - this drive only read dvd's not write to them.
Can burn to cd's only.
Here's screen of the capabilities:

Missed you post before I posted mine :)
Daemon or Image Tool may not be causing a problem - but you can always uninstall them if you like to make sure.

Update the firmware on the drive - last update was from 3/06 - version KHOR:

It's sounds like the drive isn't recognizing the disc. The update may help this.
You said it's a blank - by chance have you written to b/4 and did an erase?

The option in Decrypter is erase the disc (no drive). Reason it's saying device not ready is cause this drive doesn't support burning to dvd's.
Like JaguarGod said they are pretty cheap nowadays too for good ones.

Thank all of you for your generous help. I never would have thought that it was my lack of having a DVD/RW burner/drive. That saves a lot of time and frustration. I guess that's why I'm a newbie. Thanks again.
