How long does it normaly take?

It usually takes around 10-15 mins to rip a DL movie

Adding more ram always makes ur pc faster.

it all depends on the movie of course too, but sometimes i get 2x, sometimes i hit up 5x and high as 8x

another thing to make sure about is keeping the DVD clean..... if the disk has smudge marks or fingerprints it could cause the drive to read it slower. Some disks are just naturally slow but I would set DVDDecrypter to read disks at 6x to insure no reading errors.

Also check and make sure your DMA is enabled for the drive.

However as you stated ripping speed depends on the disk, DL movie disks will only rip at about half of your reader/burner rated speed, unless you have a Plextor drive which has speed read. Single layer will rip faster much faster. It also depends on the state of the disk, scratched disks will rip slower. Also, encryption will slow Decrypter down unless you have AnyDVD running in the background.

and arniebear,

i am using the ripit4me combo with fixVTS/dvd decrypter/shrink.... would it be good to even add AnyDVD to run in the background of all of that stuff too?

RipIt4Me will not run with AnyDVD it will give you a warning to shut it down.

thanks. i think i need to not have a DVD being decrypted to find that settings tab so i'll need to wait a few more minutes as i have one ripping right now.

i also saw browsing the forum that some people rip using DVD Shrink, then decrypter to burn. the way i do it is : i open with ripit4me, rip with DVD Decrypter to the hard drive, then it runs fixVTS, then it automatically opens shrink and i back it up using Nero running on its own.

is there an advantage to starting with DVD Shrink clicking "open disc" then burning with iso image with DVD Decrypter?

I usually use Nero to burn my backups, only use ImgBurn or Decrypter for Dual Layer backups. I like burning in Files over iso as I find some iso backups will loop on my player when I do movie only. IMHO it is just user preference iso is just one big file, VOB are broken down, all in what you want.
