When trying to burn a CD in MusicMatch Jukebox v10 plus or a DVD in Nero 7 Ultra from files on my HDD I get a dialog box that asks for media to be inserted into the drive... but the drive ALREADY has media! The drives recognize data and audio CD's and Nero will play DVD's but will not recognize media to be burned to... Can anyone help? I've contacted both MMJB (Yahoo) and Nero but their support people can't offer any fix...
Thanx for any help!

You could try first insert the cd or dvd into the drive and make sure that your pc recognizes them (If you have Nero Info Tool, so much the better), and let the disc stay there before encoding or burning.

Good luck!

scf_au... hey thanx for the advice!

As I stated in the original post the media IS already in the drive BEFORE I even select the files to burn... the drives (I have a MadDog Dominator 6 in 1 12X DVD drive and a 48X CD-ROM drive)recognize all other recorded media just not blank media... weird!!!

I have the Info Tool and have sent that info to Nero... still no help.

Oh well, if push comes to shove I can always wipe the drive and reinstall everything again!

Try this..........
In your device manager, right click on your burner, and click "Uninstall". After it uninstalls, reboot, and let Windows detect new hardware, and install a new driver for you.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes...............

Thanx JVC...
ummmmmm... nothing, still doesn't recognize blank media... this is maddening! Both drives used to work and suddenly outa the clear neither would recognize blank media.

Something is really strange as it isn't only MMJB it is ALL my apps that burn to cd's, Nero7, Win Media Player, MusicMonkey Gold... although I can still burn DVD's through CopytoDVDPro... weird!

The most likely reason is that either the drive or the software does not recognize the MID code on the disc. If your drive cannot have its firmware updated to include additional MID codes of discs (The MID code tells the drive what power and what pulse rates to send to the recording laser for a particular disc.), then your only choice is to try a different brand of disc or get a newer drive.

Thanx for your advice Joe... I get an error message whenever I run Nero InfoTool and when I try to burn which reads:

C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL.an installable virtual divice driver failed initialization
Close - Ignore

I usually choose Close but on occasion I've choosen Ignore it dosn't seem to affect anything but COULD it be a reason media isn't recognized?

Ummmmmmm... As far as media types go I use Sony Cd-R 4-8X, TDK CD-RW, Memorex CD-R 4-8X, Verbatim CD-R, CompUSA CD-R 24X, Sony DVD+R 1-8X
All these worked BEFORE I removed all Symantec software from my HDD... I can still burn DVD's using DVDShrink and Vso's CopyToDVD...
If the DVD drive recognizes blank DVD media why wouldn't it recognize blank CD media? Should I try a spindle of CD+R?

I also have a similar problem..All of a sudden ,both of my drives will not recognize the media...I use neor,120%, and DVD Decrypter.I have used many different types of media, both dvd and cd's.....My way around it is to unistall the drive in device manager and then let it 'scan for hardware changes' by right clicking the 'dvd/cd rom drives'.....the drive then will burn my media until I reboot my pc...there must be some type of conflict or software prob,I do not think it's a hardware error

Yeah this happened to me once. I put in a dvd and went to burn an image and it wouldn't recognise my disk; I was like wah wtf lol

Anyway i tried unistalling to no avail, and then upgraded my firmware. Then my drive went right messed up lol - don't know what happened but apperntly with Lg drives(i have an lg) this is rather common. Well anyway i downgarded firmware to what i had before and it worked again. lol wtf?

Anyway i read here at Ad, that once someone had unistalled there Nero that came with the drive to upgrade to Nero 7 free trial or similar situation. He then unistalled the trial and reinstalled the burning software that came with his drive and it worked - w00t. Well try that? if you have the software disks (which i did not) lol

Hope that helped in some way, provided an insite lol i dunno but anyway :)

To the best of my knowledge, I don't believe there is any CD+R. I have looked everywhere and to no avail I can't find CD+R. Memorex and TDK are not very good media. Keep using Sony preferably made in Japan and Verbatim they are among the best media besides Taiyo Yuden (found on line). It is possible that it is a firmware problem, go to cdfreaks.com and see if they have a firmware update for yor burner. I believe they have firmware for Maddog. Its worth a try. Good Luck. BTW, if you know of anywhere selling CD+R, please let me know. Thank You

Not sure but I think MadDog is basically an NEC, so I believe NEC firmware will work. Just find which NEC you match up with and flash that firmware. Go to binflash in my signature and ask which one you have. Actually you can go to NEC forum in CDFreaks.com and ask them they will be a big help.

Ummmmm... I found out that the drive is manufactured by Artronix Technology but could not find a website for them by doing web searches. Anyone familiar with this company or have a web address?

I have a NEC N3550A and have had no problems whatsoever, but a lot of people like BenQ and Pioneer. NEC's have been good to me and there is good support at cdfreaks.com NEC forum.

I have two Pioneer and no problems, also I have found that if you have cheap media it causes this problem.
