I love GTA but this game is gonna show the gamers out there what a next gen game is all about. This is a real blockbuster game. I feal GTA has gotten a bit tired and doesnt really offer anything new. MGS just keeps on giving and growing a true example of a master piece.
Pity its the very last one.

It isn't the last one it is just the last chapter to do with solid snake.

gonna be a big hit, pre-order bundles for bundled systems sold out in like 5 minutes on amazon and crashed there servers it was so busy

I actually lucked out this week. I totally forgot to take off for Thursday's release (much like I did for GTA IV's release), but, as luck has it, I was given off.
It's gonna be a fun day.
Thursday is almost here!

The article may have been valid almost a year ago now but a press conference a month or two ago revealed that Kojima was going to start work on another metal gear. I don't remember where I saw the article but I think it was on afd news article or a Sony blog.

I think I read about this in P:TOM this month. It probably wasn't confirmed at press time which is why they didn't state is as fact.

from what i read is that hes going to do mgs5 but hes not going to be as involved as he was i mgs4

Anyone in this thread going to the midnight launch? Best Buy is having them.
Thankfully, I got my pre-order so I'll be picking it up tomorrow morning. I got a lot of stuff to do tomorrow though so I'm torn about playing all day and getting stuff done lol.

How do you CQC with some of the weapons? I havent been playing much but it seems that I cant get snake to grab someone and hold the knife to their throat with a weapon drawn. Can someone help me?

You need to have the knife or pistol equipped to be able to grab some1 by the throat.

why do some of the bigger weapons still have the CQC icon if you cant use it as a CQC weapon?

I think this is, unequivocally, the best looking AND playing game on the PS3. This definitely looks better than COD4 and Uncharted (IMO, the two best looking games on the PS3, prior to MGS4--I haven't played GTP). I'm not just talking the cinematic style cutscenes (which really do resemble a movie), but the actual gameplay graphics are amazing.
Furthermore, everything about the controls seem intuitive; from selecting weapons, items, gadgets, and situation specific actions, to CQC and firing weapons, it's all great.
Since the comparison between this and GTA4 is inevitable, I'll definitely say that this game is deserving of the 10 from IGN.
GTA4 definitely deserves 9, 9.5+, but not 10 (how they say the framerate/slow down during action sequences didn't disturb the gameplay is beyond me. When there are more than 5 people on screen, the game comes to a grinding hault. Never mind the clipping issues). IGN says just because a game gets a 10 doesn't mean it's perfect. Fine. But they say a "10 game" is one that redefines the genre and pushes the system/genre to its limits. GTA4 doesn't do that. It does everything else incredibly well, which is why it deserves 9, 9.5+.
MGS4, on the other, DEFINITELY redefines the stealth/action genre. It also pushes the limits of the system (by today's standards anyway). If you need proof that the PS3 is a hi-def, gaming machine for the future, this is it.
Now that I've actually learned how to play MGS4 well, I just want to keep playing. It sucks that I am at work.

This game is intense, looks go good. I'll definitely finish it! I have all previous releases for PS1+2 and Xbox but never finish them.

You definitely should finish them beforehand to understand all that's going on so you will get a better ride out of mgs4.

I played and completed metal gear solid ps1 about 8 years ago. I was late purchasing a ps2 so i missed the ones on there. From what i have played so far of mgs4 i think im getting the jist of it. I think Konami have done the cinematics well (making them interactive so incase you dont understand etc)

Its fine off the start but once you get deeper into the game you will start to get confused fast.

Im sobre now lol anyway im on the third level atm and all i can say is its amasing! Feels just as great as befor the octocamo is brill. The visuals are fantastic just what ud expect from a AAA title unlike the dark visuals in GTA. Ive not had too many lengthy cut sceans but they dont bother me anyway. The only issue ive got with it so far is that it can be hard moving the Camera where you want to look sometimes when you near walls. Vut dont get me wrong 10/10 so far.
1 question i cant remember wat the connection between Snake and Meryl is. any ideas?
