how frustrating, I havent made any back ups in a while, guess one needs to keep up with this stuff. I used dvd fab to rip (updated first). It rips ok but when I put it in Shrink I got an "invalid data in ...." so I tried ripping then using FixVTS. I put that in Shrink and it froze up the whole PC, so I tried the ripitforme since I already had all the apps installed. it goes through the ripping, VOB fixing, but when it gets to shrink I get failed to open vts_01_0.ifo" This DVD was released 8/15 wonder if its a new protection?

Hi nitepeopl
New protection - nah nothing that the programs you are using can't handle. What movie?

So options for you:
Run the files you ripped from DVDFab thru VobBlanker (free)than open Shrink.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/334154

Here's also a guide for Ripit4Me. Follow these steps and you should be good too.

okay I tried both tuttorials exactly and neither worked :0

DVD fab to VobBlanker yielded a 99MB video_ts folder (org. 6.2 GB) that when dragged into Shrink gave me a invalid data error

ripit4me almost made it everything lookd real good all the way up until Shrink was at 89% done i got a error and windows kindly informed me that Shrink "needed to close!" twice, I am currently running step 4 in ripit to see if 3's a charm????

so i tried quiting ripit and just opened shrink,

I got to 27 % and got an out of memory error from

shrink it stoped but did not quit. I closed it

and opened the folder created by ripit in

Vobblanker i got this message,

"VTS 01: Detected 6 cells with pointers mismatch

between VTS_C_ADT and PGC_PBK tables Using

VTSM_C_ADT initial and end pointers...

This is quite usual in ILV/multiangle VTSs, but

VobBlanker does not support them, except in skip

mode.

Note: This is NOT an InterLeaVed VTS"

I processed w/ VobBlanker and at the moment I'm trying to shrink its output....

man nitepeopl this one is frustrating :(
Which version of DVDFab are you using? 2.9.8.3 or the beta 3.0.0.1

Okay take the ripped files from DVDFab Decrypter again and run them thru VobBlanker. Check the size in voblanker- should be the same size that dvdfab ripped - then if any vts file is showing as 'skip' click the 'process all'. Looks like some may be checked this since the size went from 6.2 gig to 99 mb! Way too small.

Not free but there's AnyDVD (has a free 21 day trial). It's a driver that runs in the background (has a ripper too). You can try running it in the background w/ Shrink - use the original disc not the ripped files. AnyDVD also works well w/ it's companion CloneDVD (also has a 21 day trial) http://slysoft.com
If you do try AnyDVD I'm very curious on the protection. You can set AnyDVD to show the copy protection & disc info. Go to settings>program settings - then click the 'show information window on new media' and post.

I am using DVDFab 2.9.8.3. I will DL the beta now if u think it will help.

When I imported my dvdfab to VobBlanker all vts files were showin as "process" in "action" I also hit process all once (i did it 3 times) just for the hell of it???

don't know what to do now.

Well this one has nothing special on it at all - very surprising Shrink can't handle it alone. Just the regular CSS copy protection.
Maybe cause it's an episode disc gave the other programs a problem?

Ok AnyDVD runs in the background so as long as you see a red fox in the system tray it's on & running. Now open Shrink can process as usual.
Try this 1st. Make sure you are using the full disc option since this is an episode dvd.

The ripper is a separate option you can also use. Right click on the red fox and you'll see an option to 'rip video-dvd to hard drive'.

Just for the heck of it - click the back of the discs for smudges or fingerprints. If any clean off w/ something none abrasive.

ok AnyDVD is running and I wiped the DVD with a monitor wipe and this is what happend w/ the beta dvdfab ad VOB blanker:

after I installed the 3 beta of dvdfab and gave it to VobBlanker I got this message at about 25%

"Warning: Packs unsynchronized. Skipping packs...
A total of 8 packs have been skipped."

this time it yieled a comparable size file 5.97 GB. it also imported into shrink fine but this time shrink quit (again) at 16% it the message it gave me is

"dvd shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Out of Memory
The page file is too small for this operation to complete"

also windows gave me a message of low virtual memory in the system tray, then it went away???

and Shrink quit.

With AnyDVD no need to rip 1st w/ dvdfab & run thru VobBlanker.
AnyDVD can sometimes conflict w/ dvdfab so use one or the other but not both at the same time.

Just pop the original in the drive. Have AnyDVD running. If you keep 'show info option' on then once it pops up open Shrink and let it do it's thing.

Now the out of memory - how much memory is on this pc? No multi tasking and close all the programs that you can. The error can mean that you have run of memory and the pc will 'swap' memory to free hard drive space. Not ideal will slow things down.
So another thing to check how much hard drive space you have too - need at least 12 gigs for movies. Any of the previous rips of this dvd go ahead and delete if you haven't.
Next I would do a disc cleanup and system defrag.
Let's clean the pc up a bit now and try again.

this pc has 256 mb ram, funny thing is I done many sets that were similar and never had this problem, always went dvd fab to shrink and it was all good, now with this newer release....

the boot dive w/ the programs folder has 11.4 free gb
the d drive where I save the outputs has 90 gb

and
I always remove all other copys before trying again.

I will run defragon drives now and delete older attempts again.

do I need 12 gb on the boot drive and I just recently went below that mark and thats why I get this new memory problem??

Shrink sometimes has a problem w/ multi angle DVD's if running 256mb memory. Looks like this DVD may have them from the message you got in VobBlanker.
That may have also been why you received the memory error in Shrink also.
512mb in memory would be better.

On the boot drive your fine w/ the space on the hard drive. You want to try and keep 12 gig at least free on the drive you are ripping too.

Now do you have Nero by chance? If you do may be better to just use Recode to back this up w/ AnyDVD running in the background.

Yes, select the Write to Hard Disk option at the end of the wizard in Recode.

Yeah I saw where this one was an older cartoon - VobBlanker gave you this This is quite usual in ILV/multiangle VTSs
So just might be. Would explain Shrink having problems w/ it.

Keep us posted

Recode is an alternative to Shrink - just doesn't handle the copy protection. Just need to run AnyDVD in the background w/ it.

Another one is AnyDVD's companion - CloneDVD2. Same 21 free trial as AnyDVD - can download from the same place.

If you do use it by default on the last screen uncheck 'delete temporary files after writing' so that's it stored on your ahrd drive to transfer to the pc w/ the burner.

Now for the mac - sorry I've never used one so can't be of any help there.

good thing i said maybe because the disk will not play right. It freezes before menu screen so ypu press menu 2wice for it to work . you can selects episodes but each one freezes during intro sequence and is not watchable. wonder if there is something I can do to treat the output of shring to fix this, or do you think my best bet is to compresss/rip with something else?
