just used this method and it is easy, and relativly hassle free.
the only thing wrong with that tut is that when you type in the modeb command make sure there is no space between the mode and the b eg like this (mode b) oh and make sure you have a disk in the drive to get it recognised by windows, but take it out b4 you dump the firmware.
i definatlty recommend this method as it.is safer than the two wire trick

does any one know how to use the slax cd for putting the hitachi drive in mode b without the usb-sata connection...

i mean just the sata connection..

when i try booting from the slax cd the cd gets stuck in the drive for some reason and my flash stops at 50%..

i've already dricked one drive,,,now is there a right safe way to use it.....

????

Get this pci-card. It works with Hitachi drives and slax WILL put it into modeB.

Well I factor in the fact of credit/bank card vs. going to the local best buy, flashing the 360 with the card.. taking the card back and getting my $50 back.

Hey PS2Menace, do they still have cards at best buy that would put my Hitachi 79FK in Mode B?

No, that was almost 3 years ago. Only VIA cards seem to work for me with the 78/79, not the SIL3112a I linked to years ago.

So I'm guessing a NForce 4 Motherboards onboard SATA card wont do it for the 79FK drive?

My Xbox 360 RROD and my backup Xbox has that Damned Hitachi drive.
