I am having trouble with backing up "STAY ALIVE". The back-up copy has the audio not in sync with the video.
I was using DVDFab then encoding with DVD Shrink and burning with Nero.
What am I doing wrong?
Is there a software problem?

Hi.

There are any number of possible causes.

Did you use good quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, or Made in Japan labeled Fuji or Sony disks?

Was your burn speed limited to half or less the rated speed of the media?

Is your burner's firmware up to date?

Since you used Nero for the burn, why not post the section of the Nero History file that concerned that burn. It would be the last section if you haven't burned anything since. Each section begins with a header followed by your name and Nero program serial number. Delete your name and serial number before posting. The history file is in one of these paths:

Nero 6: Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory
Nero 7: Program Files -> Nero -> Nero7 -> Core -> NeroHistory

I use TDK printable disks. I have had very good luck with them.
The burn speed is 4x.
The Nero version is OEM that came with the burner. It does not have a history that the retail versions have.
The burner firmware was updated about a year ago. "Lite-on".
I have run the process of DVD Shrink to encode then to Nero to burn again and the disk plays correctly this time. This is the second time this problem has happened.
Another problem I have is:
I tried using DVD Decrypter but DVD Shrink does not recognize the files Decrypter makes (I must have a setting incorrect). I have it set on file mode, any ideas?
Thank you for your help,

Hello again, cheyenne1.

With respect to TDK media, some of it is made by TDK itself and some is made by Taiyo Yuden, a very high quality supplier, but a great deal is made by CMC Magnetics, a low quality supplier. If your spindle is labeled Made in Japan, it's probably pretty good. The only way to know for sure is to actually examine the media code. DVD Decrypter in Write mode will provide the code on the line labeled, Disk ID. I like to use a free program, DVD Identifier. There are other programs as well.

If you find your media was made by CMC Mag, that could be the cause of your problem.

If you haven't updated your firmware for a while and are using newer 16X media, you may run into increasing problems as your burner will not burn media very well it doesn't recognize and have am existing write strategy in its firmware.

With regards to your problems with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, are you using AnyDVD or any other program in the background to handle structural copy protection that DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink cannot handle themselves? Normally, DVD Shrink can handle DVD Decrypter files without problems, but if disks have some types of structural protection, the files need cleaning before being processed by DVD Shrink. Either FixVTS or VobBlanker can do the job.

I would recommend you try using Ripit4me. It's a free program that links together DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and FixVTS, all free programs as well, to backup any disk with any type of copy protection. I would also recommend you uninstall both DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and do clean reinstalls. Here's links to download each of these:

Here are links to guides for Ripit4me which includes instructions and links to software.

laddyboy,
The media code for the TDK disks is:
0@P-!00
In "very small" letters it says made in Taiwan on the spindle.
I do not know what that stands for. That was from DVDdecrypter in write mode.
I have upgraded the firmware for my Lite-On SOHW-16335.
I will reload Shrink and Decrypter as recommended.
Let me know what the media code means.
Again-thank you,
cheyenne1

Hi.

I have no idea what that code means. Taiyo Yuden will have a code of TY or Yuden. Verbatim uses MCC. CMC Mag uses CMC, etc.

I have reloaded both Shrink and Decrypter and upgraded the burner firmware.
If I continue to experience a problem, I will add to this thread.
I have 2 more questions for you......
What is "Book Type" and does it need to be set in decrypter to Lite-On because of the burner I'm using?

Hi.

Booktype applies only to +R media (+R, +RW, +R DL). If +R media is booktyped as "DVD-ROM" it will be seen by most players as a commercially mastered DVD which may improve the likelihood of a player recognizing and playing back the disk. Most newer players will automatically recognize +R and +RW format disks and play them without problems. The exception is the dual layer +R disk. Many players will not recognize and play them unless they are booktyped to DVD-ROM. Since +R media can be booktyped there is little reason not to do so.

Liteon has its own booktyping setting utility program that enables booktyping with the burner firmware. Once set in the firmware most burning programs, including Decrypter, will booktype the disk.
