Good Morning
I would be very grateful if the knowledgable people could advise me what has gone wrong with backing up my DVD collection please. I am frankly not clever with computers or software and my knowledge limited. I installed DVD Shrink over a year ago with Nero following advice on this site. I had been using DVD express which was not so good. For many months I was able to backup my DVD collection great with perhaps one disc in 12 not wanting to backup. Now hoever I am lucky if I can backup one disc in six !! The other five will stop during the initial read/scan check by DVD Shrink and gives me this message...
"DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "D:\"
Data error (cyclic redundancy check)"

What does this actually mean please ? And can I solve this?

I have tried to read all I can on the forum before posting as I do not want to take your time up (sorry if this has been advised and I cannot find it).

I have tried shutting down every possible prgram running such as cyberpatrol for the children, even disconnecting from the internet and shutting down virus protection etc. But this made no differance at all. One friend who is reasonably good with computers said he thought it may be that my DVD reader/writer combo is three years old and therefore too old to do the job properly now. Would you agree? I just cannot understand why it worked very well until recently and even now will backup about 1 in 5 or 6 discs. The discs it refuses to backup all seem to play ok, I checked this. I tried cleaning them gently but again no differance.

Such a pity I hope someone can help please?

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

See a pattern forming? lol.

We should have this error in the glossary section.
