I just backed up 2 movies I just bought...Getting Played and The Sentinel...I burned them on 3 different Brands...Memorex...Imation and Maxell and when I try to play them back the there is static and it freezes...even on the orginals...one play is an old apex by it also occurs on my rca which I bought 6 months ago...are the dvd's coming with something to keep the laser from reading it or do you think both lasers are going bad...I think I should not have bought the RCA...

Any thoughts are appreciated...

Try playing the Back-ups on other Stand alone dvd players. If the back-ups play on other DVD Players you may have a problem with your RCA & APEX players. You could try getting a can of air and blowing out your Players. Also Steer Clear of Memorex and Imation Discs. They are Not Very good Discs. tayo Yuden and Verbatim are considered the Best. Burn at 4x Or no higher than 1/2 the rated speed of the discs. Make sure the programs that you are using are up to date.

MeanGee,
If it freezing using the originals then it has to be the DVD Players or you have accidentially gotten 2 bad mastering presses. The odds of you getting 2 bad mastering presses on 2 different movies is possible but the odds are in the DVD Player being the problem. Try doing what Berryone suggests and use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden blank media. Take the disks to a friends house and play it on their DVD Player. Again if it plays then it is the DVD Player

I've been using memorex and never had problems before...they are 16x but I burn at 8x...I took a look at thread about media and it had Memorex listed in the top tier...is that wrong? I've been burning for two years now...maybe some of the media is changing...any ideas on a dvd player that plays anything if I find I have to get new players?

MeanGee ,
I do not know what thread you looked at but Memorex has never been at the top in DVD's. Most of the people have good luck w/ the cheap players as they usually play everything. I think some recommend the Apex or Cyberhome and they can usually be found at Wal-Mart and maybe even Target

@MeanGee

Memorex is not good media. I can't imagine anywhere you might have seen that it was. The problem will crop up later on, when the discs go bad. Stay away from Imation, and Maxell 16X +Rs made in Taiwan for they are CMC mags too.
