Not sure what I am doing wrong as I cannot find my initial posting, maybe just tired trying to solve this issue.
So here goes again. Hope I do not upset anyone as I DO need help here.

PC Specs are LapTop with Athlon 2000+ CPU 222Mg ram, onboard Sound and Graphics processing ( Sad I know) But it HAS worked once :-)
Running XPHome with SP2 all updates complete, Clean system, defragged, HDD dics scanned and errors fixed.

In short, When using DVD Shrink to back up a movie it freezes during the burn process. Could be at 50% 60% or even 93$ :-( But Whole pc freezes as CPU is maxed out. I have succeeded in burning the one copy of a movie and produced 6 coasters.
DVD discs were cheacked and appear to be in excellent condition. I.e No blurring on the surface or scrathes or marks or disfiguration of any kind.
I thought it may be heat related but am not sure now. In case it is this LapTop will be recieving a complete clean very shortly.

Any suggestions or questions to aid me please ask or supply as my head is going to explode with the hours I have spent trying to figure this out.

To me it sounds like you are using DVD Shrink to encode and burn the dvd directly to disc. Try setting it to encode to files on the hard drive, as this will lessen the stress on the CPU and memory. When you click the backup button, select backup to a folder on the hard drive, or to an ISO file, and then you can burn with Nero, or another burning suite that supports ISO or dvd video. Also try going into the preferences and disabling the preview window. Also I'd use your windows task manager (ctrl+alt+del) to shut down any unnecessary processes before encoding. Hope this helps out some.

Encoding is very CPU intensive and may be overheating your laptop. Laptops arent' the best for dispursing heat in the first place and with the extra load of encoding it is probably getting pretty hot. Be careful you don't damage it beyond repair.

Thankyou for the suggestions.
Yes, I use msconfig and restart the pc with all programs off and then go to task manager to shut down AVG background services as well as a few others.
I will try what you have suggested "Try setting it to encode to files on the hard drive, as this will lessen the stress on the CPU and memory. When you click the backup button, select backup to a folder on the hard drive, or to an ISO file"
It has no problem Encoding and the processor is not maxing out. It is just the burn process which freezes sometimes. Regarding heat... yes it looks to get a little hot. At or up to 71C. I placed a large fan behind it and directed the air flow under the LapTop as an experiment and the temp dropped about 10 degrees C. Still had burn issue.
We shall see how I go by doing things seperately.

The settings on DVD Shrink are default. And yes, the Ram is VERY low.
The Laptop will recieve a clean out of dust as it has not been cleaned in 5 years I have found out!!!
This belongs to my Father in law. :-) So we will take care of this too. And perhaps see that the paste between CPU and Heat sink is replaced.

Thanks for the input.

Well, latest and last post I guess is that after the clean the LapTop runs at around 58C average temp.
I tried the before mentioned burning process. I.E. Seperate the process and it worked like a charm. However as was known the processor heat went up to 81C after completion of everything so I will stop burning with the LapTop.
Just bought a new DeskTop and will happily burn away with this instead.
Damn LapTops and their inefficient cooling systems.

The End.
